Detective Jack Handley uncharacteristically took the time to clean off his desk. He tried to convince himself that it was because it was approaching the end of the month and it was time to file some documents and not because he knew she was coming. She, who had appeared in his life so mysteriously. How often is it that a cop rescues a gorgeous woman stuck on the side of the road with a flat? For an unbelievable bombshell like her to give a grizzled 50 year old divorced detective the time of day...just not his usual type of luck. And now he was wrapped around her little finger and he knew it. So much so that he had cleaned his apartment hoping to convince her to spend the night and now he was cleaning his desk because she mentioned casually that she would stop by - that she needed a favor.

He knew she had walked into the precinct when some of the nearby desks fell silent. While he hated the idea of her being ogled by the other guys when she walked through, he couldn't help what it did to his ego knowing she would be passing all those jokers' desks and would be stopping at his. She looked super classy, like she always did. In a high-wasted beige pantsuit with a perfect pleat. Every hair on her head curled perfectly into place. A rare woman in her 40s who looked like age would never be a factor impacting her beauty. She sat in front of Jack.

"So, when you called you said it was urgent. Talk to me honey."

"I need a favor. A very big one." Oh, I got a big one for you, Jack thought to say. But then he thought better of it. She was too classy for pickup lines and the last thing he wanted to do was to scare her away when she already kept him at arms length.

"Name it honey. You know I'd do pretty much anything for you." She looked around nervously and dropped her voice as she continued.

"I'm afraid this request is going to put that to the test, Jack. I am trying to find someone - the daughter of an old friend. It is a matter of great urgency and I think I may have found her. But I need to prove for certain I have the right person and for that I need your help." She pulled two plastic bags out of her purse.  One contained a wiry ball of gray hair and there was a pink hairbrush in the other.

"Say no more." He took the bag from her and slid it into his top desk drawer. "Consider it done Angela."
