Chapter 1
Starring mindlessly at the board, with my hands on my cheek, I realized that time definitely flies fast. I mean, I’ve been through so much drama since I started here at Brick City High three years ago. I wouldn’t have expected anything less from a boarding school having the dominating population being Africans.
As my biology teacher, Mr. Gaiynes keeps blabbing about reproduction in human beings, everyone in class is so fixed into the topic; they barely noticed that I was in my own dream realm.
“Kate?” a deep voice came from behind me, disrupting my thoughts.
“Huh?” I asked looking over my shoulder.
“Are you even in class?”
“What’s your business, Dylan?” I scoffed as I turned back and tried to pay attention in class.
Dylan was on my case last year. We physically fought because he accused me of backbiting. Ugh!! The fight was almost brutal; though I got out scar-free, he had a cut on his left eyebrow and his nose bled. I felt pretty good about myself at that time, but now we’ve settled our differences and kept the past in the past… for now.
He tapped me lightly by the shoulder
“Can you move a bit? I can’t see anything with your fat head in my way” he said in a sarcastic voice
“Then, lets exchange seats” I suggested
"I like the back” he retorted
“Then live with it!” I replied coldly, trying to block every word he was saying
“Why?” he chuckled
“Is there a problem here?”Mr. Gaiynes sternly asked.
“No, sir” I replied quietly
“Good. Can you tell me what I just explained about the hormones in females?” he chimed.
“Uhh…”I began as I fidgeted with my fingers.
“Female hormones such as…umm..”
“Oestrogen” Coco mouthed as she sat beside me
“Oestrogen?” I said unsure of myself
“Pay attention next time. I don’t think you’d like to fail your Junior High External Exams” he warned as he turned his attention back to the class.
“Thanks a lot for embarrassing me” I muttered under my breath
“I didn’t mean it”
“Whatever” I replied as I tried to focus on the topic.
Finally, the lesson ends and Mr. Gaiynes leaves the class and we all sat and talked during our free period.
