The brightness is too much. I guess it's time to get up. I start to stand, but get a sudden push in the gut. Suddenly, it's dark again. This is much nicer, I guess. I open my eyes, and they immediately adjust to the darkness. My overhead light is sitting, cracked, on the ground beside my bed. God's way to wake me up. I chuckle to myself, as I realize that it's 09:48, about two and a half hours after my normal wakeup. I guess my alarm clock didn't go off this morning. Oh shoot, I unplugged it last night to charge my phone. Oh well, at least I don't have to go to war, unlike those men. War has been engaged for 17 years, almost my entire life. I live alone... like most people on this moon. After almost every man moved to the barracks, us ladies have lived mostly alone. From the outside, I look like any other girl. Inside, however, I am dead. My 3 loved ones have all been killed in war. My dog was slaughtered and sent as food to the army. My parents were killed by rouges on this moon. I want to die. I have attempted many attempts at suicide. It's fine, I guess. I now know killing myself isn't the best way to end my suffering. I guess I'll just have to live out my life. I get up, after cutting the evil thoughts from my mind, and walk down my stairs into my empty house. I grab breakfast and head to my door to check my daily mail. Bad idea. Hundreds of warriors from Earth (I've seen pictures of them before) are standing outside my door, all with their blasters aimed at my heart. The world slows down as the triggers are all pulled simultaneously. The bullets tear at my skin, pulling out bloody pieces of skin.
I jump up with a start. It was just a dream. I'm back in the real world (or so I hope) and my dog, Jermy, is sitting beside me. He sits up, barking at my sudden sit up. My alarm clock is going crazy. It's 07:31, just barely later then my normal wake up time. I walk downstairs, and inhale the wonderful smell of homemade syrup-filled-waffles. My mom is drinking her everyday coffee while standing at the waffle iron. My dad is nowhere to be seen, but that's normal. I sit down on my couch, and wait for the waffles to be finished. I ask my mom, "So, where's Father today?"
"Out taking Brian to the park," she replies. Oh yeah, Brian. He's my 10 year-old neighbor who thinks he's one of us. Not trying to be mean, but I most definitely despise that kid. I wouldn't mind if that snitch was kidnapped by the Earth soldiers, and tested on, as long as he never returned. Returning to reality from my thoughts, I realize my mother has placed a plate of steaming hot waffles next to me. Jermy jumps up next to me, and attempts to snatch a waffle. I stop him, and scold him harder than I had for the past day. I start taking a bite of my waffle, when the door suddenly rings. My mom had just sat down, so I jump up to answer. I open the door, and my heart stops beating for a moment.
Mr. Packals, our mailman, is there holding a package with my name scribbled messily on top. I grab it, and run back into the house, after yelling "Thanks" and slamming the door. I later realize I should've gone slowly, but I didn't realize that until later. I sit down and rip open the packaging, and to my disappointment, there's only a letter from the packaging crew, saying my expected package isn't here yet. The only good thing about this note was that it said that it should be here by tomorrow. My mother asks who it was, and I reply with, "Oh, just the mailman. Package for me." I finish my waffles, and while I'm cleaning the dishes, my front door opens. My father walk in followed by... Oh God... Brian. The demon himself has entered my house.

Author's Note
Thanks so much for reading. Sorry for the long delay of this chapter, I've been busy with everything else. I'm glad to get this out after a good couple of weeks. I hope to have Chapter 3 out by next week, but don't rely on that estimate too much. Thanks a ton!
