The crash was heard as far off as the tree house. James and Mrs. Johnson grabbed each other, knowing the only one to cause such an explosion was Abraham. James ran for the ladder, shouting for Mrs. Johnson to follow. He [James] had only one thought, we must save Abraham. They soon reached the ground. James looked at his hand in alarm.  He had descended so fast that there were rope burns on his hands. He clenched his teeth and ran for the house next door to the Johnsons'. The house, they knew, would be deserted, because the inhabitants had been in the town hall when it was bombed. James ran in, looking for car keys, of which he found two. The keys both had insignias.  One was for a Ford, and one for a V.W. James knew that the only car in the driveway was a bug, so he grabbed the Volkswagen and ran back out side. James hurriedly unlocked the car and hopped into the drivers seat. Mrs. Johnson protested, saying that she should be allowed to drive, but after a minute, realized it was a lost cause. She hopped in shotgun, and they zoomed away. The road was mostly clear, and they made good progress. Soon they saw a thin wisp of black smoke rising through the air, about a mile away. There was no wind, so it formed a perfect line in the sky. James was so excited that he floored the pedal, hoping to get to Abraham as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the pedal snapped, and the engine blew. Thick black smoke started to seep out from under the hood. James leaped out of the car and started to run, fearing that the car would blow. Once he was several yards away, he turned and saw that Mrs. Abraham had come to the same conclusion as him. She was halfway out of the door when it happened. There was no big explosion, the car just went up in flames. Mrs. Abraham was engulfed, and he distinctly heard her thud to the ground, screaming.
