"Do you have work today?" Patrick said quietly.
"No, just have to send out a bunch of important emails before 8am tomorrow." I said readjusting the tightness of the blind fold.
"Alright, cause this might take a while!" He nervously laughed.
"Where are we? I here chairs moving, and music. Are we at a bar?" I said sort of scared, but I knew I could trust him.
"Not exactly..."
"Hey Pat," an effeminate voice said from somewhere in the distance. It made me kind of jealous.
"Who's that?" I said in a normal tone, not trying to sound like a crazy girlfriend or anything of the sort.
"You'll see," he said as we kept walking, now in a slender hallway. I could tell because the sound was different. Nothing to the right or left, but funneled sound coming from in front and behind us. It freaked me out a little more, but no matter where we went, I could hear voices, and if anything went south, I could just call out.
"Here, sit here." He said lowering me into a sofa chair, I heard faint noises, like a smart phone game, and then whispering. It was Patrick whispering, and then a girl with a lollipop voice saying, "you got it, Patty!" Then my blindfold came off and I was in a dressing room. It was lit up, and exactly what you see in movies, but there were boxes on the floor everywhere on one side. It almost looked like a storage room. Then I turned around, and it wasn't even Pat that took it off, it was the girl. She looked at me and smiled.
"Ah yes, the first time is like this for everyone. See I'm only allowed to tell you limited information, but basically Patty is in a show, and he has got to get ready. It takes about an hour, and then we will go out and get you a seat, so you can watch. It's a great show, but guys don't typically bring their girlfriends." She said with a smile, and then a confused look, and then a smile again.
"He's not my boyfriend." I muttered quickly. "What kind of show? Like a play?" I said, still looking around.
"This is the out of use dressing room, cause the boys like to have locks on the door, and this one ain't got one. I'm Lila by the way." She completely avoided my question.
"The boys? Is this an all-boys show, all men?" I said noticing that Lila was dressed up. She was wearing a purple corset, and had a long, flowy, pink skirt, that went to her ankles, and a sparkly pink hat was sitting on the desk, just waiting to be a part of her ensemble. "Are you in the show?" I asked on a separate note.
"Yes, I'm in the show. Not a big part, but yeah, I'm in it. I have been for um... Six years now! Wow, and no, it ain't an all-boys show, but the guys are the neediest for dressing rooms, so I just use this one."
"Well, you look great. Are we in the Dewsbury Theatre? It's the only theatre I can think of within a twenty minute drive of the park."
"Thanks! And no, we aren't in the Dewsbury theatre, we are actually at an underground Theatre club called North Broadway. Have you ever heard of it?"
"Yeah, a girl I know named Vicky said that she comes here some times." I said in an excited tone, mostly because I had an idea of where I was now.
"No way, I know Vicky! She's in the show tonight!" Lila said back in excitement. "She also has a small part, but no part is too big or too small. The guys wouldn't be able to do this without us!" she cheered herself on.
"So what is the show about exactly?" I asked again.
"Oh silly, that's one of things that I just can't tell you right now. Plus, you wouldn't want to spoil the show would you?"
"No, I guess not. You said you had been doing this for six years now, so how old are you if you don't mind me asking." I said changing the topic.
"Well, I am nearly 22, so I have been doing it since I was 16, this very same show, but each time with a couple changes. Plus, Actors come and go right? Like we got Patty three years ago when he was like twenty or something, but we got Vicky like four months ago. So there are always some changes. I heard a rumor though, that Patty had been performing in a show like this since he was fourteen. I think that's impressive, but his family sure didn't think that it was, except the beauty queen, she was here just a couple weeks ago."
"When does the show start?" I asked.
"It starts in about 45 minutes, but we got to get you out there in thirty! Do you have a smart phone?"
"Yeah, I do." I said a little confused, wondering why she would want my phone.
"There's this game that I really like, and if you are anything like pat, then I'll think you'll like it too. Plus, it will make the time go by quicker. It's called Unicode, here," she said taking my phone and downloading the app.
"Is it hard?" I asked as she loaded up the game, and the little tune I heard from her phone earlier was now coming from my own.
"No, not at all. It's actually too easy. Here!" she said handing the phone back to me, "I'm gonna go get Vicky!"
"No, it's okay! I really don't think she li..." she cut me off as she was running out the door.
"Nonsense." She yelled closing the door behind her.
I wasn't sure what Vicky would think. She might think that I'm stalking her, or encroaching on her space. There had to be a reason that she never told me much about what she did here. The only reason that I knew this is where she was hanging out is because one time, a friend of hers was driving by and asked if she was going to North Broadway that night. Now that I thought of it, it kind of looked like Lila, but it could have been anyone here. It could have been the woman that said Hey to pat when we got here.
Vicky came in the room and didn't notice me sitting on the sofa chair at first. She looked incredible, nothing like I had ever seen her in before. She was in a purple leopard print suit, a pink tutu, and the tips of her hair were sprayed purple. The themed seem to be pink and purple from what I had so far. I thought about how it would be funny to see Pat dressed up in a pink and purple outfit too.
"Wow, you look different." I said looking up to her.
"What are you doing here?" She said not even skipping a beat. She looked kind of annoyed, but also kind of happy. Which was a strange combination.
"Her Boyfriend is in the show!" Lila smiled.
"Uh, he's not my boyfriend!" I said for the second time. It was becoming apparent that she didn't really listen to me.
"Ha!" Vicky let out an obnoxiously loud laugh. "You better hope he's not, that would make you a..."
"Stop!" Lila yelled. "It's a surprise!"
"That's one fucked up surprise if you ask me." Vicky snorted and then stuck up her nose.
I was really confused. I would just have to wait until the show started to really understand what she was talking about. Although I didn't know if I really wanted to know what she was talking about. I nodded uneasily, and went back to playing the game.
