Chapter 4 ~ Too Good To Be True

I look in my bedroom mirror and see my reflection. I am wearing a short, red strapless dress. Ring! Ring! Ring! My mobile rings. I pick it up and wait for an answer.

Then someone shouts at me from the other end. "Are you ready? We are already at school!" I recognise it's Ino's voice.

"Coming." I say to her. I sneak out of my home without even saying bye to my Mum or Hanabi.

The sky is dark, nearly pitch black. It must very, very late. I feel like running, but all I do is speed walk. This dress is too difficult to run in, I am scared I am going to split it or something! I see the school lamp post's glowing brightly in the distance. I am nearly there!

I get to the schools front door and I carefully push it open. I walk cautiously down the corridor which is empty. The sound of my heels echo as I walk. I hear music coming from the schools hall. The Valentines dance has already started!

I hurry a bit too quickly and as I get to the hall door, I trip as I push it open and I fall. I close my eyes shut and I feel myself burn up in embarrassment.

"You ok?" I open my eyes and see Shikamaru holding me by my waist. No wonder I didn't feel myself hit the ground when I fell!

"I-I-I am f-fine..." I stutter.

"Your finally here!" Ino came over to me. She was wearing a long, silky pink dress. She was arm in arm with Sai who stood there wearing a black suit.

"Finally, I was wondering when you were going to arrive..." Temari says. She's wearing a long blue dress with a white shawl and is holding a glass of cherry red punch.

Shikamaru then suddenly pulls me up keeping me close to him. I blush some more.

"Are you sure your fine? Looks like you've got a temperature." His face looks concerned as he places the back of his hand on my overly heated forehead.

"Yes. I am fine..."

"Hello there Hinata, hello there Shikamaru!" I turn round to see Rock Lee standing behind me. He gives me a wink and thumbs up (which scares me a bit...) He's wearing a dark green suit. This is random, I have never even spoken to Lee before...

"Oooh, how cute!" I see Tenten grin at me from behind Shikamaru. She's wearing a a fancy yellow dress and it's the first time I have ever seen her hair down. I have never spoken to her either...

"Do you two mind? Were kinda busy here." Shikamaru says. I am on the verge of fainting right now!

Then Lee starts a countdown for some reason. "3...2...1...GO!" I suddenly feel him push me hard on my back. And at the same time Tenten giggles as she pushes Shikamaru on his back. Before I know it, Shikamaru's lips are on mine!

It feels like it's been a while until finally, he gently pushes me away slightly, and smiles.

My eyes snap open. My heart is beating rapidly. I sit up and look around my bedroom. The sun light is shining through my blinds. I check the time and my clock reads 9:08 am. It's Saturday morning.

I take a deep sigh. "I really feel like I have a temperature..." I feel my forehead with the back of my hand and I then bury myself back into my bed covers. I replay the dream in my mind.

"Well... I guess it was too good to be true..." I mumble.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Yes." I say. My bedroom door slowly opens and Hanabi stands there, her small satchel bag across her, looking dressed to go out.

"Mommy says I can go shopping for groceries with you! I am ready to go, I have had breakfast. It was yummy! Yours is ready on the kitchen table. And I have the shopping list here and all! Mommy says that you have to collect the money from her when your ready to go, ok?" She smiles.

"Oh, ok then." I get slowly out of my bed and get dressed, taking my time. Hanabi folds her arms.

"C'mon Hinata! Your soooo slow!" She rushes over to my curtains and pulls my blinds up.

"Hey, the sun is too bright!" I say to her in a slightly angry tone. Hanabi just giggles and wanders out of my room.

After paying for the all the groceries, Hanabi runs over to the sweets isle. "Yay! Let's get some of these!" She picks up a packet of cute, pink bear shaped sweets and looks at me.

"Take a picture of me like this!" She holds the packet against her cheeks and gives me a closed eye smile.

"Let's not waste time Hanabi, we have to go-"

"Awww what a cutie!" I turn round and see Ino. She's standing next to Choji and Shikamaru. Oh no, my dream then pops into my head. I feel my cheeks go hot.

"Hey Hinata, so how are you today?" Ino asks me.

"Oh, I am fine thank you. I've just done some food shopping for my Mum."

"Cool... If your wondering why I am here, it's because Choji wants to buy some food. Me, Choji and Shikamaru always hang round on a Saturday together, don't we guys?" Ino puts her arm round Choji and Shikamaru.

"Yep!" Choji says whilst chewing gum.

Shikamaru rolls his eyes. "Yeah, it's a drag, but I guess I am used to it now..."

Ino lets out a small laugh. "So, do you want to hang around with us for a bit?"

"Erm, I, well..." I keep my eyes on the ground.

"Oh c'mon Hinata, I am sure you have nothing to do at home. Don't try and make excuses!" Ino says jokingly.

In the end, I drop off Hanabi and the groceries at my house and Ino tells my mum that I am going out for a bit.

We all walk to the park. Ino chats a lot to Choji and Shikamaru which makes me feel left out. Say something! I tell myself. Why am I so useless at joining in conversations?

"Are you ok?" Shikamaru turns round to look at me. Then Choji and Ino turn round too. I blush.

"Yes, I am ok thank you..." My eyes shift to the ground. Then they all turn back round and I hear Ino whispering to Choji and Shikamaru. This makes me feel worse.

I have literally followed them three all they way to the park. They have been whispering to eachother for a while. Ino has never left me out like this... Then Ino says loudly, "C'mon Choji, let's go to the swings over there!" Ino runs towards them.

"YEAH, WAIT UP, INO!" Choji tries to catch up with ino.

My eyes start to well up with tears. Then I realise someone's walking along side me. I quickly wipe away my tears. It's Shikamaru. He casually tucks his hands into his pockets as he looks up into the clouds in the sky. My heart starts beating a hundred times faster than usual.

"The weather is nice today..." Shikamaru says to me. I try to answer, but it feels as if something is stopping me from talking.

There's a short pause.

Then he steps out in front of me. We are face to face now. His eyes look straight into mine which are still watery from before.

"Oh, well basically, all I want to say is that... well, how should I put this..."
