Announcing the Winner

When I wake up the light from my window is creeping in and I smile. Today is the day they announce the winner. I wake up Sydney and we both get dressed. It's Saturday so I don't worry much about what I look like because I don't have any plans for the day other than listening to Radio Disney. I throw on my R5 t shirt and some jeans. We go down stairs and eat quickly because I don't want to miss the winner even though they aren't announcing it for half a hour. As we are about to go upstairs Amy walks out of her room in a nice business outfit.

"I have to go to work today", she says making a sad face, "my boss called me this morning and told me something has come up. Call me when you find out about the sweepstakes."

"Ok I will", replying as she walks into the kitchen. As I run up the stairs I hear her yell,

"I hope you win!" I smile and continue upstairs to my room. Sydney and I go in and I turn on the radio. We sit on my bed and play on our phones as "Roar' by Katy Perry plays.

When the song finishes I hear the radio announcer say, "I'm announcing the winner in 5 minutes."

We both scream as the station goes to commercials. It feels like a hour before

I hear the announcer's voice again, "alright the moment you have all been waiting for."

I squeal right as the house phone rings. No! not right now. They are about to announce the winner. I know I have to answer it because my Aunt gets important calls and says I have to answer when she is gone.

"Do you want me to get in?", asks Sydney with a look of panic on her face.

"No I have to." I run out of my room and pick up the phone sitting in it's rest on the little table in the hall way.

"Hello?", I as. "Is this Rinnah Mason?", asks the person on the end of the line. Wait they sound familiar! My heart begins to race.

"I'm Candice for Radio Disney", says the lady. I freeze. Sydney senses my panic and is next to me .

"You won the sweepstakes! You are going to L.A. to spend a day with R5!", she screams with excitement. I almost drop the phone. I begin to scream and jump up and down. Sydney looks at me like what is going on.

"I won", I scream! Then we both start screaming. I finally collect myself and say "Thank you so much."

"Hey it's not me who picks the winner, but you're welcome", she replies laughing. I am rerouted to a different lady who tells me how I will get my information. I give her my address and the other information she wants to know and hang up the phone.

Sydney and I scream and run around the house for ten minutes. Then I remember I need to call Aunt Amy and tell her the amazing news. I quickly dial her and try to remain calm even though it's almost impossible.

"Hey Rinnah", says my Aunt.

" Hi", I reply trying to be calm.

"So who won?", my she asks in a eager tone.

"I did', I scream! I hear my Aunt scream too!

"We're going to L.A.", she says. I laugh and reply, "yes we are!

"Let's go out to eat tonight to celebrate?", she asks?

" Yeah that sounds awesome", I reply.

"Alright then. Bye I'm so happy you won", my Aunt replies.

"Me too. Bye." I hang up the phone. I hang up the phone and lay on my bed smiling. I can't wait to meet R5.

The rest of the afternoon Sydney and I talk about me gong to meet R5 and how much fun I'm going to have. Most best friends would probably be jealous but Sydney isn't. She's never been the jealous type. I think she is having as much fun talking about me going to see R5 as I am. At about 5:30 Sydney and I start getting ready to go out to eat. We do the usual hair and makeup. When we are almost ready I hear a car horn and know it must be Amy. Sydney puts on her shoes and I grab my jacket and purse and we run down the stairs and out the door.

As I climb into the car I ask Amy, "don't you want to go change?' Then I notice she already has.

We all laugh and Amy pulls out of the drive way. During our ride we all talk about the sweepstakes even until we are seated at our table at my favorite restaurant. We end up all ordering the same thing chicken parmesan. Once we get our food and have been eating for a few minutes I decide I need to tell Sydney something.

"Hey Sydney can you not mention anything about the sweepstakes at school?", I ask her.

"Yeah if you want. Why not?"

"I don't want a whole bunch of people treating me special so they can get something out of it. And you know I hate it when people rub stuff like that in other people's faces which is what I don't want people thinking I'm trying to do."

"My lips are sealed", she replies with a smile.

"That is so sweet honey", says Amy. "I always love how you want to be accepted for who you are and not the things you have or get to do. They aren't a whole lot of people like that these days. You and Sydney are some of the only people I know like that."

Sydney and I both smile and say thank you at the same time which sends us into a fit of giggles. After dinner we drop of Sydney at her house and make it back home in ten minutes.

When we make it home and into the house Amy gives me a big hug and tells me, "no one else in the world deserves to have one than you."
