"Eunmi, I'm so sorry. You're mother has leukaemia." Jin held my other hand in his tightly.

Suddenly I couldn't breathe, my vision was blurring with tears. I felt lightheaded. I wanted to break something, anything. I wanted to scream.

Why was this happening?

"Jin, can I go in and see her?" I lifted my head and stared at him.

He nodded. Without saying a word he headed towards the door and held it open for me.

Lying in the hospital bed was my mother, with all kinds of needles and tubes stuck into her arm. I held Juyeon closer to me as I watched the slow rhythm of my mother's chest going up, and then down, and again.

In. Out. In. Out.

I pulled a chair up next to her and held her small frail hand in mine. She was so weak for so long and I knew nothing. Seeing her like this was killing me.

"It's late stage 2, almost stage 3. I don't know how long your mother has left if she doesn't receive treatment soon." Jin walked over and placed his hand on my shoulder trying to comfort me.

There's nothing on this planet that could comfort me in this moment.

"Jin, how much is the treatment?" I whispered. My voice was too weak and I already could hazard a guess at the how in debt I'd be.

"Eunmi... treatment for this stage is quite expensive. There's chemotherapy, painkillers, surgeries... it will be quite costly." Jin's eyes held so much pity and I hated it. I didn't want anyone, especially my best friend to look at me like that.

Where am I supposed to get so much money for treatment. I have my savings but they're most likely not enough. Probably not even enough to pay for all the pain medicine.

I'll think about that later, for now I have to be by my mother's side.

Jin's POV

"Hey, Hoseok. Did you know Eunmi is back in Seoul?"

"Yeah, we went out for coffee earlier when I bumped into her at the supermarket."

"Really? Why didn't I know? I'm her best friend."

"We bumped into each other. A coincidence. How did you find out?"

"Um... her mother is in the hospital."

"What happened?!?"

"Her mother has cancer."
