Jake closed the door and picked up the huge load of groceries to unload them in the kitchen. Looking around as he went to the counter, he could see that he was going to be home alone.
Elsie had gone with their parents to see the circus that had come to town. She had been begging for the trip for weeks on end. Jake felt weird not being able to tease and torture his sister. The house felt barren without his family.
He switched on the lights as he walked down the hall to see the TV. Seeing all those horror movies sure had a negative effect on his bravery. He opened the can of rose milk and chugged it down, thinking how much better it was compared to those weird chemicals teens loved to call Cold Drinks. Fools.
The Big Bang Theory played on a channel right then, so Jake switched on to it and contently reclined into his dad's comfy chair. "Nobody to tell me what to do, nobody to lay out the ruuules..," he sang offbeat but the doorbell interrupted his moment of fame.
