I awoke to another empty bed in our camp. Pen was missing, just as Georgia mysteriously disappeared. This time there was no doubt that she wasn't just In the bathroom. The rest of us glumly made our way down to the eating hall, only to find two more empty spots at our table.
"Have you guys seen Chip and Mario?" some guy with black hair nervously asked us. I guess he was beginning to become friends with the two. We all shook our heads. I suppose they were missing as well. Three people missing in one day? This place needs better security.
The day went on, and soon even more surprising collection of people. Just the next day, Summer, Meadow, Sapphire, and Candy all disappeared! Things were starting to get personal.
Not only was I alone most of the day, with the exception of the black haired boy named Steven who hung out with me some times even thought it was pretty awkward, but I was beginning to wonder why everyone was missing. If they were taken, I needed to find them. If they left, then why wasn't I included? That hardly seemed fair. I needed to figure this out. Now. And of course, I would.
Tap tap. "Emmy!" an urgent voice whispered as something poked my head. I lazily opened my eyes to find piercing green eyes staring at me. My own widened in shock as I realized who they belonged to. I opened my mouth, but a hand covered it. "Shhhh! Come with me." I nodded obediently and she lead me to the bathroom.
"Georgia! Thank Arceus! Where did you go?" I whisper-shouted.
"You'll see. I have to bring you somewhere, it's where everyone went. Wait for 'me' to come back!" she replied, using air quotes on "me." Wait, what? "Me?"
Georgia swiftly left the bathroom, leaving me to my questions. Why was she being so secretive and confusing? I waited several minutes longer until “she” came back. Wait, why am I using quotes now?
She nodded at me, gesturing for me to follow her. We walked to the entrance of the cabin, and she started to walk out. But why would we be going straight past the guards? She grabbed my arm and pulled me out the door, though, noticing I had stopped. When the police officer outside the door gave us a questioning look, Georgia held up a pass and we walked past her toward the school. Right before we got there, we slipped around and ended up a part of the way inside the forest.
A small hole was dug in the ground, and we crawled into it. After we fell through, Georgia slid a cover on it and we climbed a ladder down to a small gray room that lead into a bigger room. All of my friends surrounded me, including Georgia. Wait, but Georgia was right next to me. I looked from Georgia to Georgia, and I’m sure the confusion settled on my face because the others began to laugh. Then the Georgia that had lead me there began to transform into a tan boy with long black hair and ear piercings.
“Oh my Arceus!” I shouted, beginning to laugh at myself. “You must be a Zororark Gen!”
“Yeah. The name’s Zeke. And you’re Emerald, the Espeon Gen,” he introduced.
“Um… yeah...” I replied, not knowing what else to say.
“Well, I gotta go clear thing’s up with that officer. Georgia, tell her the stuff,” he commanded, slipping away.
“Welcome to the P.O.P.- the Protection of Powers!” Georgia stated grandly. “It’s kind of like a little rebellion.”
“Oh great,” I commented, rolling my eyes. “Because all this camp needs is a rebellion. Guys, why the Heatron do you want to rebel?”
“Well, have you ever thought why we’re here? Why are we Gens? What are we even training for?” Summer interrupted. I nodded my head.
“We’ve… sort of found the answer,” Meadow explained.
“You see, Professor Maple hand selected us from birth. All of us had just the right genetic requirements he needed to inject the Gen serum into our blood and make us some Pokémon hybrids. And as for training, well… let’s just say there’s gonna be a war,” Georgia clarified. My mouth gaped open. A war?
“I know right? I thought a war was crazy too,” Pen said, laughing a little.
“Seriously, though? A war? Whom with? And why?” I questioned frantically.
“With the Mods. Basically, Mods are natural born Gens, but without all the abilities we have with Mutant, Super, and Fusion. And Professor Maple wants to beat them. To take over the world with his little Gen army,” Summer described.
“And we’re not going to let him!” Georgia shouted triumphantly.
“So Patience was right. That’s nice but… how do we know all this?” I asked.
“C’mon, let me show you,” Meadow said, leading me to a smaller room that had a strange device attached to the ceiling. “It lets us eavesdrop on Professor Maple’s office. We’ve heard calls from him to this man we don’t know about yet describing his plans and also threats toward the Mod camps leader.”
“Oh, and when Chip went missing, he was really just down here the whole time gathering information and organizing the group,” Summer added.
“This is insane. And a rebellion’s going to help because…?” I said.
“If he’s going to try to use us to take over the world, we won’t let him!” Georgia explained.
“Well I suppose that’ll work… I’m in!” I declared.
“Yes!” Candy cheered.
“Welcome to the Protection of Powers!” Sapphire saluted.
“Perfect!” a masculine voice to my right said, and I turned to see Chip standing there, Mario by his side. “You guys convinced her?” They all nodded their heads.
“Great! Then you’ll be our leader right?” Mario asked.
“Whoa whoa whoa… slow down… leader?” I spat.
“Yeah! You’re a great battler and everyone here knows about you!” Mario said optimistically.
“C’mon!” Chip prodded. Mario grabbed my arm and lead me up to a small elevated area in the center of the big room. Zeke stood up next to us on it, and I spotted Steven standing by my group of friends.
“Ladies and gentlemen, your new leader!” Chip announced. I tentatively raised my hand and waved a little, and the crowd that must have contained two-thirds of the camp cheered.
