I came home from school on a Monday and started my homework. Mamma and Pa were at work so I decided to go to Grandma and Grandpa's house. Walking down the driveway I was greeted by their 3 horses Halo, Angel, and Snowball. They walked up to the top of the pasture with me. I noticed Grandma's car wasn't home so I decided to go into the house to see where Grandpa was. "Grandpa!! Grandpa where are you!!" I yelled but there was only silence. I walked out of the house and stood on the porch looking around. That was when Grandma and Grandpa's dog Remi came running from the barn. She was wagging her tail but also whining "What's up girl" I said bending down to pat her. She let me pat her before she ran back to the barn. I sat on the porch swing when Remi walked halfway to the house from the barn and started barking and whining. "Remi? What is it?" I asked when I met her where she stood. She ran to the barn and I followed her running. When I got into the barn I noticed a figure laying on the hay bales. I walked over to it and noticed it was Grandpa. "Grandpa!!" I yelled, he wasn't responding so I called 911. "911 what's your emergency?" A woman said on the other line. "My Grandpa!! He's not responding and he's not waking up" I said yelling into the phone "Is he breathing" she asked. I checked his pulse and replied "Yes", "Okay what's your address" she asked. I gave her my address and she responded "Okay sweetie an ambulance is on its way in about 5 minutes." "Thank you" I said before hanging up.
The ambulance arrived and I got in it and went with Grandpa and went to the hospital. Once we got there and Grandpa was stable I called Mamma, Pa, and Grandma. While Mamma and Grandma were in the room with Grandpa, Pa and I sat outside and talked. "If anything happens to Grandpa the horses will be yours, alright" Pa said. I responded with tears in my eyes "Okay but nothing will happen right" I replied. "We don't know honey. Go call Dylan, he's waiting for you to call. I'm gonna go talk to the doctor" Pa said. "Okay" I replied.
I called Dylan and he picked up "Are you okay?" was the first thing he said. "N-No" I said crying to him on the phone. "I'll be there in 10 minutes babe, don't worry" he said " O-Okay" I replied. "Honey Grandpa wants you" Mamma said "I'll see you when you get here I love you" I said to Dylan "Okay I love you too" he replied before hanging up.
Grandma and Pa walked out and I walked in. "Grandpa" I said softly "Haley come here" he said. I walked over to the chair beside his bed and sat down. "Honey I'm not gonna make it" he said quietly "No Grandpa! Don't say that!" I said with tears in my eyes. "God wants me home but I'm gonna tell you something. Don't give up on the ghost horse. You'll find your partner in crime. It may take a while, but you will know he's yours. He will be a gift from God you will become what you were born to be, a cowgirl. Now Cowgirls don't cry, ride, baby, ride, Lessons in life are gonna show you in time, Soon enough you gonna know why, It's gonna hurt every now and then, If you fall get back on again, but Cowgirl's don't cry." and those were the last words Grandpa ever said.
