I walk through the halls of the hospital. "Hey Brie" the nurse says. "Hey Margaret, how is she?" I ask. She pauses for a moment and looks down. I knew that look, she's gotten worse. "How long?" I ask about to burst into tears, but I have to stay strong for her, She looks at her papers, analyzing them. "About a month tops" I only had a month left with her. "Can I go see her" I almost collapse from the dread weighing me down. She nods. I run as fast as I can, I come up to her room. "Hey..." I say as I open the door, scared of how she may look. "SISSY" I heard Bella yell. I just smile. "Sissy, I'm dying" she bluntly says, throwing me off a bit. " How do you know" I frown, why would they tell her, she's 5. "I can f-f-feel it...How l-l-long" she tries to say, she has a speech problem. I took a deep breath. We've always told each other everything, and I'm not going to stop here. "A month". "When I die, imma be your guardian angel, a-a-a-and protect you from dumb boys, but I will leave them alone if they are nice" She smiles. I laugh at her. I checked the time and frowned, I have to get to work. "Hey Bella, you know I have to get to work". She looks at the clock on the table, I taught her that at 3:45 I have to leave. "OK, go make some money" she says as she giggles. I just shake my head laughing, until I walk out. The nurse sees me and gives me a sympathetic look. I walk out of the hospital and reach my car. I open the door and got in, I burst into tears. I wish I could stay, I called in to work to many times, if I call in again I'll be fired. I wish I could be there for her all the time, but I need to save up money for the hospital bill. I hit the steering wheel making it honk. I suck it up and start the car, I stay there for a few seconds more. Then I drive off.
I get to work and walk in. I work at a place called Nandos, I'm a waitress. It's a good job, but I wish it paid more. I'm supposed to smile, but I couldn't.
It was my break, so I walk out of the restaurant, and walk to my car. I get into my car. Everything that has happened in my life all came out, in one HUGE sob. I let the tears fall, I didn't care anymore. I suck it up..again..and drive off, I go to a Starbucks and order a grande caramel frappe, I drive back to Nandos, as I'm about to park I notice a black car in the employees parking, I didn't recognize. I park my car, and walk up to the black car. I knock on the window, he stares at me, but he soon rolls his window down. "You're in an employee parking" he just nods. I shrug. There were lots of parking. I walk in. I try to look happy. I come up to a table, my only table...by the looks of my book. There were four guys...great."May I get you anything" I say, choking up. "I will get a perri perri chicken sandwich, he will get the normal salad, he will get some fries, and he will get chicken wings" I write all this down. I see the guy with blonde hair staring at me out of the corner of my eye. I finish the order and walk up to the window, I give the cook the paper. I get a call, it was Margaret, I pick it up. "Hello..." I gulp, scared. "Brie...I read the papers wrong...your sister only has... an hours left" I drop the phone, I hear it break. I run as fast as I can to my car. I drive to the hospital in record time. I get out and dash to the front. I get to the desk, the lady doesn't even say anything, just looks at me. I run through the doors. I stop at her door. I slowly open the door, not saying anything. Margaret is already there. I get closer, I see my sister, my heart breaks. "Bella, I'm here, sissy is here...it's going to be ok" I see her eyes slightly open, close, then open again. "Hi.....sissy" She looks very tired. I can't speak, but I manage to pull something together. "Hey...how you holding up" I croak. "I'm really tired, I have some wishes first. Margy, Can you please just talk to get a dog...for me...And s-s-sissy, find a nice boyfriend who loves you and have a little girl named Bella" She is crying. "We'll try" I laugh sadly. "Sissy.......I'm scared" she looks up at me. "I know, it's scary for everyone, I'll be here ok....just...remember sissy loves you" I sob. She closes her eyes, I start to sing 'A Thousand Years'. Then I hear it, I see doctors coming in trying to save her, but they can't. I sink to the floor sobbing. I cry, I feel as if I could never stop crying. The doctors come and bag her up, Margaret is trying to calm me. I finish crying...out loud. I walk out, everyone staring as I pass by. I drive to Nandos. I park in the parking lot, I wait there for a little bit. I clean my face up and get out. This time I never try to be happy. I was lifeless. The guy was still there. I walk in, I didn't now that when she died, I would too. I miss her. Everything reminded me of her. The same four guys were there. I go up to them. They had a whole buffet on their table, they ate one of everything, almost. They all smile when I came in. "Why are you still here" I asked, nicely. "He wanted to stay...he saw you run, wanted to see if you were ok" The brown haired guy, smirking, points at the blonde guy. I just shrug, they all frown. I walk to the bathroom. I start crying again, something about their cheekiness reminds me of Bella. I finish, then I clean my face again. I give them their check, they left, and I went back to the hospital. I go up to her room to get her stuff. I start looking at all the things she had, most from me. I end up becoming a ball of tears. Still crying, I put them all in a box. I leave the hospital and went home(I usually sleep in the hospital, so this is going to be weird)I have to be ready for the funeral tomorrow. I get home, and went to bed.
Bella's standing at the edge of a cliff, I run up to grab her, she jumps. "BELLA NO" I jump after her. I can see myself fall, but it never really happens...I'm dead, but not. I hear Bella's voice. "Sissy...this is weird...I see you, but you can't see me. I miss you. I am going to take care of you and watch over you. I love you"
