Author's note: Hey guys! If you're reading this far, thank you!! This chapter is gonna be pretty long, that's why it took me so long to write it. I'm really excited about this chapter and a few of the ones to come. Thanks for sticking with me! xoxo
Lily's POV
Lily felt guilty, but in the best way possible.
Her and Petunia had ridden their bikes to the big hill, three streets down. The hill they were explicitly not allowed to ride their bikes down. The warm, early august air excited Lily's nerves as her and Petunia debated on who should go first.
"You're the oldest." Lily argued "So it's only fair you go first"
"No way Lil! You know you're best at riding bikes, you go first so I can watch how you do it." Petunia rationalized. This, Lily knew was true. She had always been a bit braver than Petunia, despite her small stature and younger age.
With this in mind, and the thought that if they didn't get back home before sunset their mum would kill them, Lily began tightening the strap of her helmet. She tucked a few stray strands of maroon hair behind her ear before she started peddling down the tauntingly steep hill. She kicked off and immediately felt the warm wind kiss her face, ensuing the sweet, summer smells of raspberries and freedom. Her speed picked up as she peddled harder, she could hear the sound of petunia cheering her on behind her, adrenaline shot through her body making her feel alive and carefree.
That was until, all too late, she spotted the pothole directly in front of her tire. Before she had time to swerve or scream, the tire caught and she went tumbling down the hill, her bike scrapping after her in the process.
"Lily no!" Petunia screamed from the top of the hill.
"Lily!"
"Lily, come on!"
Lily woke up, in a sweat, to Marlene shaking her violently.
"Lily we have an exam to take! Don't you want to get it over with?" She begged.
It was December, and Lily had been spending all her time studying for these exams. Well she would study whenever she wasn't sneaking around with James, listening in on meetings, or walking the grounds with Remus as they did their prefect duties. In the last month and a half Lily had gotten almost no sleep at all, and her roommates were starting to notice.
"Alright, alright, I'm up!" Lily moaned as she pushed herself out of bed, her vivid dream still staining the back of her eyelids.
"Lily, you really need to start sleeping more." A concerned Alice said as Lily shuffled through her things trying to find her robes.
"I'm fine Alice," Lily assured as politely as her morning self could allow.
"I can sleep after I take these exams." Lily excused as she began to get ready.
"I think we all will." Marlene agreed swiftly, "All of our professors are really going down on us this year, I can't blame you for studying all night, Lily."
Lily nodded saying, "I just hope I pass these exams." Studying had been her long term excuse for sneaking out with James to listen to the Order.
"Oh, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about Lil, you're more prepared than the rest of us." Alice comforted as they made their way down the stairs. Lily smiled, briefly wishing that was true.
The trio hardly had time for a proper breakfast so when they popped into the Great Hall they only sat down for a second, next to the animated James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter to take a swig of pumpkin juice and a bite of a scone. It was when Lily, bags under her eyes, stood up to go after her rushed meal when James protested.
