Hey guys
I know I know I know, haven't updated in so long I'm sorry. Everyone probably definitely hates me. I've been busy kay?
So this next part I'm writing from the perspective of when it's actually happening.
------------
Somewhere deep in Camp Roses:
The buses arrive (finally) to camp. I walk off with my friend Rachel, excited to get through my fourth year of camp. The way it does is that there are a few divisions, by age. We are going into eighth grade so we are in the second to oldest division, called the Sunflowers, along with the seventh graders. The one just above us is called Paradise (named ironically).
We find our bunkhouses, unpack our luggage, and hug camp friends we haven't seen in a year.
The first few days go by really well. Its awesome to see old camp friends and new kids joining our grade. Then stuff starts happening. The only good friends from home that are in my bunk are Jessica Leyar and Molly Lopez. The rest were all new people. I'm the beginning things are fine and everyone gets along perfectly. Then the drama starts happening (I mentioned the thirteen thing). Girls blaming each other. Girls stealing stuff from each other. All the best stuff. I tried to stay out of it as much as possible.
But things don't get really bad until the last week.
The nightmare starts when I hear my friend Spring Meyer calling for me and Jessica on the porch of our bunkhouse. She is in the next bunkhouse over.
Jess and I are on the floor playing spit. It is about 11 pm at this point and we were all supposed to be in our bunks an hour ago. Our counselor was at a counselor night activity. The rest of our bunk is all talking to each other on their beds. Jess and I look at each other and figure what the hell? We step out onto the porch.
Spring is sitting on the steps and motions for us to join her.
"You know, Rachel didn't come to breakfast or dinner today," she says.
"Yeah, she told me she had to go to play rehearsal," I say.
"But for both those meals?"
The three of us glance at one another. Yeah, that is a little weird.
"Did she come to lunch?" Jess asks.
"Yeah, she was there," I answer.
"Not only that," Spring continues, "She missed dinner yesterday and the day before. Explain to me how that makes sense."
"Do you think she might be---" Jess starts.
I cut her off "We can't jump to conclusions. Let's observe for a few more days and see what happens."
"Yeah but then what?" Spring says.
We look at one another again. None of us want to say it but we all know that we have no idea.
Jessica and I return inside the bunk. I pretend to be fine on the outside, talking happily with everyone but I'm screaming on the inside.
She has always had social problems, thinking that she didn't look good enough. But we had always just laughed off her concerns. What if this is real, not just a phase? We could be in trouble.
Rachel misses every meal the next day
