I woke up to the sound of my alarm, blaring some annoying tune. I flipped my phone over and checked the time. 8:23am. 'Oh shit' I cursed as I ran to the mirror, my own bland brown eyes staring back at at me. I ran a brush through my just as bland brown hair, ridding it of the knots it contained, and applied some mascara on my lashes.
I slipped on my school dress and slid my backpack over my shoulder. I grabbed my ipod, plugging my earphones in my ears and pressing shuffle. I ran to the kitchen in time with the familiar one direction song. I grabbed the first thing off of the black marble counter which happened to be a granola bar, ripping it open with my teeth as I ran to the door.
My fingers were about to touch the handle when i heard a shout.
"Arent you going to say goodbye before you leave?"
I turned around to see my mum standing behind me. "Im running late mum I haven't got time-"
"Kira, a goodbye wouldn't hurt you!"
I tugged my earphones out and sighed. "Goodbye, ok? If you don't let me go now I wont make the train and i'll be half an hour late! So, i'll be going now."
"Kira," My mother said, pinching the bridge of her nose "I was going to ask why have you been getting so distant lately? And when you do talk to me, its all attitude!"
"Really? You wonder why I never talk to you when every time I do we fight?" I gestured between us "Like right now!"
I stormed out the door and headed down the sidewalk. When I look back, she is stood in the doorway with a harsh expression on her face.
"I am sick to death of your attitude, young lady." She quipped, turning around and walking back inside when I heard her mumble, "I bet your brother isn't like this."
"Excuse me?" I questioned. My own mother would lie about something like this, would she? She turned around with wide eyes. "I said nothing, don't worry about it Kira."
"Don't worry? You say i have a brother, but not to worry about it?"
"You weren't supposed to kno-"
"About my own brother?" I cried. "Do you even know who he is? Where he is?"
"Now is not the time you are going to be late." She rushed in an attempt to change the subject but I wasn't going to give up that easy.
"I don't care at the moment! Tell me about him!"
"Look," She seemed lost for words. "He lives in wolverhampton. Thats all I know!"
---
I spent the day walking around in a daze with two papers clutched in my hand. His birth certificate and adoption forms. My mother had caught up with me down the sidewalk and gave them to me.
"That's all I have of him." She had said, before walking back home.
That had been a few hours ago and I still hadn't gained enough courage to look at them. Did I really want to know who my brother was?
Some time in the afternoon I sat on a swing at a local park down the road from where I lived. I'm going to need some support figuring this out I thought. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and my fingers tapped out a message to the only person I could trust with this information.

I smiled and placed my phone in my lap, picking the papers back up. It wouldn't hurt to read the birth certificate would it?
I fumbled with the paper, my eyes running over it, before shooting to the name. But this name was all too familiar. I grabbed the adoption papers to see the name of the family who adopted him. I read over the name from the birth certificate and the last name from his 'parents' on the adoption paper.
"No, no, no" I mumbled dropping the papers to the floor. I look exactly like him. The chocolaty brown eyes, matching brown hair, we even had the same nose and lips for god's sakes! How could I not see it before? I got off of the swing to just fall down next to the papers. I put my head in my hands. "It isn't possible. It isn't."
I heard the patter of feet on the concrete behind me and I knew who it was. "Kira? Jasmine said, her voice laced with worry.
"Jay. I... I have a... His name is... I don't know..." My words melted together and nothing that came out of my mouth made sense.
I watched her pick up the papers and scan over them, taking in every word. She flipped to the second page and her jaw dropped. Her mouth tried to form words but she couldn't manage it. I felt her sit next to me, mirroring my position on the pavement.
It felt like hours, although I knew it had only been a few minutes. I raised my head to look at Jasmine. She drew a breath before saying the words I wasn't sure if I was ready to hear.

This is my first story on here! I am planning on updating once a week or so and constructive critisism would be apreciated! Enjoy!
P.S : I picture Kira as Gabrielle Alpin but with a side fringe rather than a front one :)
