I knew what the matter was a few hours later. I sat in the doctors clinic waiting to be served. "Are you serious?" Said Joshua. I was actually having Fun for once then you have to spoil it like you always do. I ignored him. Humiliation creeping up my face. I had collapsed... Again. I remember Keith staring at me open mouthed. Tears spring to my eyes. Why should my health affect my passion? The doctor poked his bearded head round the door, face grave.
I trudged wearily through the pristine white door. "Sit down" he almost whispered. My heart sinks into my toes. "I have the results of your blood test. Now I need you to be brave Ok? " I close my eyes waiting for it, words like Cancer, dementia, brain clot rush through my crowded mind until I feel light headed. "You have a severe type of Syncope. Which means you have a very low blood pressure." I blink... Was that it? Oh thank Goodness! I get up to leave but mum pulls me back down again. "Now this can be very serious" he pauses " especially with all your ... Running"
I need the loo so I leave them to it chatting away about operations, symptoms, cures. I think of those words over and over again. But what do they actually mean? Will I still be able to run? I panick, a maroon rash creeping further and further up my neck.
