Austin
"AUSTY", I hearrd my mother from the kitchen downstairs. I told her to get rid of the nickname. I guess she never did. There's some things you can't change, no matter how hard you tried. I dont want to go all emtional on you, but thats the thing, im not an emotional person. Thats just the way things are , I guess. You cant change a whole lot of things.
"Mom im going," i shout. I looked in the mirror to study my reflection. I have an interesting style, my mom likes to call it unique, my brothers call it weird. See today for example, i had on a red and white striped shirt tucked into some light jeans, with red and white hightop vans, topped with a red derby hat. It makes me easy to pick on, and I can easily stop dressing the way I do , but I can't. I cant explain why I dress like this, and why i dont stop it myself. i remember my older brother Liam saying that I bring it upon myself, and maybe I do. Nobody should be judged by the way someone expressed themselves.
I walk down the stairs with my backpack and phone in hand. Already seated were the Hansens: my dad Jacob, older brother Liam, younger brother Max, and even younger baby sister Loli on her high chair in the kitchen table.I ignore my brother calling me a candy cane becasue of my outfit. My family all had the black hair and the blue eyes.My mom was flipping pancakes, one hitting the celing as soon as I walked in. My family isn't normal, we are a weird bunch. Liam plays guitar and has an annoying friend named Justin who played drums and together? My friend Josh taught Justin a few beats and now Justin thinks he's some sort of drummer boy. It was a nightmare. Liam is also kind of stupid, like really stupid. Max was basically the troublemaker of the family. He's always pulling pranks and begging Liam and I to bail him out if he needs us to. My dad was super silly, and my mom Lauren was way to much to handle, but has to step up since my dad never really took anything seriously. My mom was a bit harder on us and refers to herself as "mama bear" hinting extreme measures. That was also a nightmare, but a more enterttaing one. Loli is 1, Liam is a senior being two years older then me, but we never sat or talked to each other at school, ever. Max is a seventh grader in middle school, and I'm a sophmore, and the schools photographer, and math tutor after school too.
The pancake from the ceiling lands all over my dads dare I say bald head causing my brother to laugh. "Want some Austy?" My dad asks wiping his bald head. That was my nickname ive been trying to shake off since I was thirteen, its super embarrassing. "Dad, when are you going to grow some hair?' Liam asks. "When you grow facial hair." He responds. Liam has been having trouble with that lately, he claims he wants something to shave. "You need a ride in the batmobile?" Dad asks. The bat mobile is actually a cop car because you guessed it: my dad is a cop. His personality however is more mall cop, but my brothers dont mind dad not being as tough as cops should be since our dad lets them put the lights and siren on the For Explorer cop car when theyre late to school to get to school quicker. My mom is a doctor. Americas typical american jobs. "No thanks, I'm skating with Josh to chool today." I answer. As if on cue the one and only Josh Dun pokes his head from the kitchen window where my mom was washing dishes, My mom screams. That is also the Josh that ruins my peace and quiet teaching justin the drums.
"JOSHUA! I told you to stop doing that!" My mom screams. He laughs and goes around back to where the kitchen door is with his skateboard under is arm."Hey Mr. and Mrs. Hansen, i have came to escort your daughter to school. Hey guys." My brothers wave and josh tickles my baby sister. I grab my longboard, and drag Josh out my house. As we're skating, Josh starts conversation. "You know Austin, i'm thinking of dyeing my hair." I laugh as we turn a corner on our skateboards. "I literally just went with you to get your ears peirced. Your mom flipped.Shes going to miss your brown curls."
Josh and I have been friends for as long as i can remember. We met in 7th grade, we knew we were different then the rest, in a sense where we didn't like being ordinary. I guess ts ironic, that we're so different from each other, him having his black hair cut in every punk hairstyle possible until his mom told him to cut it out resulting him having his curls, and lip rings, and me dressing so colorful and bright, but were different from everyone else just the same. I love his family, his little sisters being like my littles sisters i wish i had, and my 1 year old sister being his little sister. They used to call Josh a faggot for his best friend being a girl, but he stuck around and had our own group.
"i know but change is good right? Thats what everyone says when a bad change happens and expects you to live with it..."
"But then hate it when you yourself has a change, I get it." I finsish his sentence for him. Thats why Josh and I were such good friends, I understood him and he understood me and i guess thats why were even best friends. Don't get me wrong, i mean we have a pretty large group of friends, but Josh and i were obviously closer to each other. Josh had squinty eyes and a head full of dark borwn curls and brown eyes. He loved his share of pop punk bands, and coffee as much as i did. He had two gauges and a lip pericing that his mom and sisters and brother freaked over being how he came from a christian household. It wasnt that they were christian, it was just how strict their mom was. Mrs. Dun loves me though. She claimed i was the only reason Josh had a B in math.
Our high school was coming into view and josh and we set our boards down as we walked up the steps.
Thats whe i saw her.
