"What do you think it's about?" I ask, watching the news about the bombings with Jason in the spot at the field. "I think it's sooner or later going to mean war," Jason answers, eating chips while watching.
Jason continues to watch the news as I see a soccer ball roll in front of us, making me turn off the phone, and making Jason look up.
Riley runs in front of us and looks at me, "Sophie, what are you doing?" I smile before answering, "skipping." Riley kicks the ball back to the rest of his group as he crawls to Jason and me, "why?"
I look at Jason then at the ground. "We took our tests earlier then everyone else and it's no reason to be in there when we don't need to be," I semi-lie and Riley sighs before looking at Jason.
"Is that true?" Riley asks Jason and I look at Jason, who nods. "Okay, I actually have to go class so, have fun." Riley leaves and runs back to his group of friends.
Jason looks at me and smiles, "good lie, Sophie." I smile and turn the news back on, watching them talk about the bombings.
"So, what did Makayla do to you the other day at your locker?" Jason asks and I continue to watch my phone. "Threatened me again for hanging out with you," I say. "She still thinks you'll go out with her." I laugh as I look at Jason, who half-smiles.
I furrow my eyebrows, "what did you do?" I ask and Jason laughs a little. "I may of made a deal with Makayla," he speaks softly. My eyes widen, "what kind of deal?" I ask, he sighs.
"I made a deal that if I went out with her then she wouldn't bug you," Jason says and adds a small laugh at the end. I just stare at him before asking, "why?"
Jason looks at me, "Sophie, has she bothered you the last couple of days?" I shake my head at his question and he smiles, "see, it's working." I frown as he smiles.
I turn my phone off and crawl out, walking to Riley, who's on the bleachers. "Riley," I say, he looks at me, "can you take me home?" I ask and he walks to me. "Are you fine?" I nod and looks at the ground, "I just feel sick."
He goes to his coach and tells him where he's going then grabs his bag and he walks out with me. I see Jason watching from the spot as I leave.
The next couple of days, I stayed at home, thinking over what had happened. I'd answer Jason's calls of him apologizing for something he didn't do.
The next Monday morning, I walked to school, wanting to get to school sooner.
I wait for Jason by the fountain and smile when I see him, only for it to turn into a frown when Makayla walks to him and acts all lovey. He walks straight by me, not even noticing that I was back.
Tyler walks to me and watches Jason. "I didn't know Jason was capable of ignoring you," he says, adding a laugh to try and lighten the mood. I sigh before speaking, "I didn't either."
I walk through the doors and to my locker with Jackson standing in front of it. "Jackson, what do you want?" I ask harshly but he just smiles as I open my locker. "Need a friend?" I frown at his question while grabbing my books.
"No," I say but he keeps smiling. "Can we get along? You're so headstrong," Jackson says and I roll my eyes. "There's no way, go away, now so long," I reply back and slam my locker door then begin to walk to class.
"Sophie," the teacher speaks when he sees me, "you decided to join us today." I smirk at the man before taking a seat. "Don't get use to it old man," I say and he sighs, frowning before turning to the board.
Ansley looks at me, ignoring what the teacher is saying. "Where's Jason?" She asks and I shrug. "Probably with Makayla," I reply and rest my head on my hand, ignoring the boring teacher.
