Chapter 1

Where to Now

Sitting at home in a shabby old wood house, miles away from any store or civilization was kind of hard to believe for a girl like me. I was from the city. The party town: Miami, Florida. I had that salt life going on! So why am I at a place like here? Well, let’s see I’m 18 years old, a year out of high school, and living with my High School sweet heart. We moved to this tiny town called Arrowville, Mississippi. Now if it was up to me I wouldn’t have chosen to live here. But that’s what my boyfriend wanted so of course I would follow.

I was checking up on my email in our little office when Ricki (my boyfriend) come in.

“Babe?”

He called from downstairs. I hurried up and logged out hoping to leave no trace of evidence.  Making sure he wouldn’t be able to know I was on. I raced down stairs to where I met him there just standing there looking at me.

“Hi, honey. How was your day?” I asked him taking his coat off and hanging it on the rack.

“It was fine. I’m starving. What did you make me tonight?” He asked walking past me into the kitchen.

“Well, I made your favorite, chicken and rice with stuffing and green beans. It’s all ready. Would you like to eat now?” I asked leading the way to the kitchen table. As in pointing for him to sit.

He sat and started helping himself. I slowly sat down in front of him but swiftly got back up remembering he had no drink.

“What would you like to drink Ricki?” I walked over to the fridge.

“I have my water bottle. I’m good.” He said taking his black water bottle out from his lap.

“Okay.” I said and sat back down still as slow as before. Trying not to draw attention to myself.

We ate in silence. I was finished and so was he. I took my plate and his also. Knowing that there was nothing on it I figured he was done.

“I never said I was done with that, did I? Bring it back now.” I quickly ran over and brought back his plate. I set it down in front of him. He reached out and grabbed my hand before I could get way.

“I’m not done until I say I’m done. Got it?” I shook my head up and down.

“I’m sorry. It was my fault. It won’t happen again.” I walked away struck with fear and shivered inside and out. I turned the sink faucet on and put my dish in the running water. I took the sponge above the sink and poured soup in the plate. I started washing. Though I was still shaken I dried the dish off with the towel that was on the counter. I walked over to the cabinet and lost grip in the plate. I didn’t have enough time to even consider what was going to happen. I had no time to react. The plate came smashing to the floor with a huge smash and a whole bunch of glass everywhere.

God dang it Tori. What the hell is wrong with you? Are you stupid?” I heard Ricki say from the table.

“It’s okay. We have plenty more. This was just an extra that’s all.” I walked over to the kitchen pantry and got the broom and dust pan. I went over to the mess and started sweeping up all the broken glass. I put it in the dust pan and emptied it into the trash. I walked over to the sink where Ricki was. He had turned on the water and started rinsing his plate. I walked over to him.
