Chapter 2:
Being back at home had brought back painful memories. I could still hear their screams ringing in my ears as they were being slaughtered right before my very eyes. Even after all this time I could still see it plain as day. It was terrifying to know the events that had unfolded on that fateful night. My life had completely changed.
That day only had one good thing. That was when I met Lila and Louie. From then on out they took care of me as if I was one of their own kind. They had become my make shift pack. They saw it as their duty to take care of me when I wasn't quite able to defend myself.
Now here we are, having another group of wolves come into our territory. Well it wasn't quite our territory. It was the witches' territory. I was just allowed to live here because of Louie and Lila's influence on the coven. If it hadn't been for them, I probably would have been killed with the rest of my pack.
“What are you doing here?”Alpha Luke asks. Every step he took he broke the glass that was laying all over the floors.
“Visiting.” I gave a short reply.
“Vising what?”
“Home.”
“This was your home? You were the daughter of Alpha Bane?” he asks in shock.
I let out a short laugh. “It's been a long time since I've been called an Alpha's daughter. But yes, at one point I had been his daughter and this had been my home. So much has happened since then.”
“What exactly had happened to your pack?”
“They're gone. All gone. The witches killed them.”
“Why?”
I shrug. “It's not my business. I don't question it unless I want to end up like the rest of my pack.”
“How were you spared?”
“My friends saved me. They thought I was too young and innocent to die.”
“Why did you not go to another pack for help?” he asks.
I started to grow uncomfortable with how personal these questions were. “I didn't go for help because I couldn't. If I so much as step a toe out of the city then I die.”
He stares at me. “Is this your first time being near other wolves in years?”
I nodded.
“How does it feel?”
“Like I belong.” I say, regretting those words.
I had never realized what I had been missing. There was always this nagging feeling in the back of my head, saying that I was missing something important. What I hadn't realized, was that I was missing pack life. I was missing the company of other wolves.
Pack life was something every wolf needed. They needed that connection with others of their kind. They needed to have that feeling of not being alone. Lone wolfs were extremely rare. Most traveled in pairs if they wanted to 'be alone'. Completely alone was something almost non-existent with our kind. I was one of the only exceptions.
I felt the shift occurring. I had an hour before I would be trapped in wolf form again.
“I have to go.” I tell him.
He grabs onto my arm. “I haven't dismissed you.”
“I'm not apart of your pack. I have one hour left of being human and I don't want to waste it by being reminded of the past.” I snap at him before bolting out of my old house.
My feet couldn't carry me fast enough. In record timing, I had made it back home. Lila and Louie were waiting for me. As usual, we said our good-byes for now. They made promises on how they would find a way to cure me. It was always the same.
Changing was always a painful process. It wasn't always painful. It only became painful after I was cursed. I didn't have free will of form any more, so it hurt whenever I shifted. Once again I was back to being a wolf.
