On That Fateful Day

Chapter 1

"YEOJINN!!!!!!!"

All I can see, is him, right there in front of me. I wanted to reach for his hand but I couldn't. Why is it getting so dark? I can't see him anymore... Why...

Jumping out of bed, I reached for my shirt while fanning myself. I looked around room then sighing. "God... it was just a dream..." I checked what time it was on my clock. "7:02..." I rushed out of bed and got ready for school.

I run to try to find my bag when,"Jin-ah! Do you want breakfast?!" My mom shouts from the kitchen. "Yes please 'TO GO'!" Ahh! I found it! Racing towards the kitchen, I grabbed my lunch from the counter. "I'm not your fast food delivery service Jin..." she says jokingly. "You are in my eyes. Thanks mom!" I gave her a hug and left.

I got a ride on the school bus. "Hello Jin!" The bus driver greets me like he does every morning. "Morning Phill! I got your usual!" I handed him his food. "Why, tell you're mom I said thank you!" I smiled and sat on my seat. Today is going to be a great day!

Once I arrived at school, the first thing that caught my eye was a banner that reads,"Welcome back Lincoln High Students!" I go to an American public high school. Anyways, today was our first day back. Its a new year, new people, new me, blah blah blah. Being a sophomore in high school is going to be interesting I guess. No more senior pranks on me anymore, no more freshman jokes, plus I'm older than 1/4 of the school! Nice! My life processes as usual.

Time past really fast today. Before I knew it, the final bell rings. Like everyone, I go take the bus back home.

When I arrived home, I see a car parked in the front of our driveway. I guess we have a visitor..? I pull out my home keys and unlocked the door. The first figure I see was a well dressed man with my mom.

"Oh! Jin!" She looked surprised but then welcomed me in. The man looked at me and smiled,"you must be Yeojin! Nice to meet you!" He extended his hand towards me. I took his hand into mine and shook it. "This is Youngjae. The man I was talking to you about." Ohh so this is the guy.

Ever since dad died 5 years ago, mom wasn't really interested in guys until a year ago when she went to Korea to visit relatives. She told me how she met a very nice gentlemen and that she's in love with him. I'm glad she found someone else to lean on.

A smile spread to my face."it's nice to meet you sir. Well I hope I'm not disturbing you. Please excuse me." I bowed and turn away. "Wait Jin!" she called out to me,"we wanted to talk to you about something." While facing her, she continued,"I was thinking of moving back to Korea." I looked at her in shock at her suggestion. "I know you just got back to school and you have friends here, but he proposed and..."

Leave my friends? I made a life for myself here already... no...

"You don't have to give us an answer now." Youngjae speaks up,"I'll be here for a week so take your time." I nod and headed towards my room.

Moving to Korea? Hmm... is it worth it...?

Later that night, we all had dinner together. It was quite fun. We all talked about random things, shared memories and other stuff. "You know Jin," Youngjae gets a little serious,"I have a son who's around your age. It would be nice if you could meet him." I can tell by how he talks about his son that he really does care about him. "Yeah! Maybe!" I smiled.

We finish dinner and I head off to bed.

While sitting in bed, I tried to envision my life in Korea. What will happen to my American lifestyle? Will people make fun of my bad Korean? What if I don't like the custom there? While tossing and turning, I kept on making up 'what if' statements, but soon, I fell asleep.

A week goes by and it was time to see Youngjae off to the airport. "Well it was to see you again." He hugs my mom tightly. I could see my mom crying. "It was nice meeting you Yeojin. I hope we meet each other soon again." "Me too." He embraces me into a warm hug,"...and I won't mind moving to Korea." Both of them looked at each other. "Really?!" As they said it in unison. I nod. "Great! We should start the paperwork and packing as well!" My mom said excitingly. "I'll help take care of everything in Korea." He says excitingly. I'm glad they're both happy. Mom deserves her happy ending after everything she did for this family.
