i lay awake in my bed,
          wondering if you're sleepless too.

          i hear footsteps in the
darkness.

i freeze in my bed and
          close my eyes.

          it's you....
you check to see if i'm awake,

but i fake it.
          i can hear you sniffle

          you climb in bed beside me and
pull me close.

"you're probably asleep...
          i had a dream... nightmare really,

          i just need you close...
let me stay, just for tonight.

here, close with you."
          your voice is gentle and i

          just want to hold you.
i fake a stretch and

turn over and wrap my arms
          around you.

          you snuggle close and
slowly fall back to sleep.

safe, in my arms....
