CHAPTER 5 - FRIENDS

“Ohh...okay. It was really nice meeting you, Mr. Justin Hudson.” I said casually but deep inside, I wished we could stay like that forever. He waved goodbye and I was by myself at the rooftop. I sighed and went back to class.

Seventh period was Chemistry. I kept replaying the scene in the rooftop in my head. It was all I wanted to think of. I was spacing out again.

Mr. McKenzie must’ve noticed me and called my attention. “Ms. Kent, can you tell me the chemical formula for Sodium Bicarbonate?”

“I uh..it’s uh..” I said with a troubled face.

That’s when I noticed Jeremy stood up “Sodium Bicarbonate also called Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate’s chemical formula is NaHCO3.” He said calmly with a smile on his face.

“Very well said, Mr. Hudson but I was asking Ms. Kent here. I hope you don’t mind letting her answer next time.” Mr. McKenzie reprimanded.

I looked at Jeremy and gave him a shy smile. He just smirked at me. Michelle whispered to me “You’re doin’ good, biatch.”

I gave her a puzzled look and said “What’re you talking about?”

“I am talking about you always getting your ass saved by Jeremy.” She said as she smiles naughtily.

“Aww...here we go again. How many times do I have to tell you, Michie. There’s nothing going on between us. You know, I’ve always been loyal to my Justin.” I said.

“Whatever you say.” She laughed.

“Ms. Kent, what have I told you? I said pay attention to the discussion.” Exclaimed Mr. McKenzie stressing the words pay attention.

“But- uh” I sighed.

“No buts. I will see you after class dismissal” he said in a high tone.

After five minutes, the bell rang. Everyone has left and Michie mouthed the words “I’m sorry” as she leaves. When everyone left, Mr. McKenzie talked to me like I don’t even know the house rules of this school. He asked me if I’m having problems or whatsoever. It went on for about two hours.

So it’s already 5PM. I sighed for I hoped this would be the best day ever, I never get to see Justin in his comfy clothes or what does he do besides football. I went out of the classroom and was surprised to see Jeremy at the corridor with his notebook and I think he’s waiting for someone.

I approached him and said. “Hey, what are you still doing in here?”

He was surprised and said “I was in a club meeting and was about to leave then you startled me.”

“I see. So uh, thanks for always saving me during class.” I said shyly.

“No, I wasn’t saving you. I would do that for everyone in the class. I just don’t like the teachers to think that we were all not paying attention to them.” He said as we head to the exit.

“So, I guess we should start the ‘tutor’ thing on Monday.” I said.

“Yeah, I guess so. Uhmm...Summer?” Jeremy said in a soft voice.

“Yeah? You sound like a lost kitten.” I laughed.

“Ha-ha. Well, I was hoping if you’re not in a hurry, we could grab some snacks.” He said and I can see through him that he was so shy.

“I think I’ll have to pass, my mom is sort of angry at me. I said in an apologetic look.

“No, it’s okay. It’s cool. Let me just walk you home.” He said.
