It was so obvious.

He didn't understand it at first, but after years of exposure, he finally realized that something was up.

And it wasn't good.

Racing to his favorite place in the world, he fostered the flicker of hope.  Hope that the lab would still be in tact by the time he reached it.

But fate wasn't feeling like being kind.

The building didn't even look like a building anymore; what was once a beautiful laboratory was now a pile of ashes.  Including everything and everyone that was in the lab.

He dropped to his knees and sobbed.  He sobbed for the lab.  He sobbed for the place he loved so much.  He sobbed for the expensive equipment lost in the rubble.  He sobbed for the money wasted on the pile of ash.  He sobbed for the lost souls.  He sobbed for the mourning families.

He sobbed for the escaped lab experiments he worked so hard on.

And now humanity had something to fear.

Something to really fear.
