DARK DISNEY
Where Grimm fairy tales come to life!
Clara, being only eight years old, was being taken to one of the most famous attractions in the world: Dark Disney. The place was built a few years after Cinderella premiered; someone had taken a liking to the Disney movie and created a resort in Walt's honor, but gave it a dark twist. They relied more on the Grimm fairy tales despite the comments from parents saying it was not appropriate for children. Some made up rumors about the resort trying to keep others out, but it only attracted more. Dark Disney has been around for almost forty years now, with the tourist population growing more and more each year.
Clara had a strong dislike for the place for an unknown reason and had begged her sister to cancel the trip to the Cinderella Suite she had won after entering the Secret Suite contest online. Her sister, Ivana, ignored her complaints and packed their belongings into a suitcase for the one-night trip. Ivana, Clara, and Ivana's husband, Joe, went to the airport the day of their departure. Clara unwillingly got the window seat and stared out the window with despair of the Cinderella Suite being filled with dark things and eerie feelings. The image of the castle from online had haunted her during the drive to the airport. It had been built like the original Disney World castle, except the white on the castle was black and the blue was gold. There were no Disney characters around the tip of the castle; there had only been bats that decorated it, giving more odd feelings to the place.
Clara had fallen asleep before take-off and began dreaming of the place. The king sized bed that was only covered in gold sheets looked too shiny and welcoming for her liking. They appeared as if someone had been sleeping in the bed, but no one bothered to fix it. A dark shadow appeared and then disappeared in a matter of seconds. The sheets slowly began to turn dark red, starting from the middle then spreading. Clara realized it was blood and began crying and screaming. The dark figure appeared again and began charging toward her. It was about to grab her when Ivana shook her awake and told her it was time to get off the plane.
Clara, startled, jumped awake and looked around frantically. Ivana rubbed her shoulder to calm her down and helped her get up. Clara was still trying to figure out what she had just dreamt, where they were, and what they were going to do next. Then it all slowly clicked in her head. She tried to beg Ivana to go back home by explaining how horrible the place was, so she would not have to see that room. It was all to no avail; Ivana simply smiled at those passing by giving her odd looks. She took Clara to the side and chastised her for saying such nonsense.
Clara began to tear up; her own sister didn't believe her. Joe ushered them to pick up their belongings then lead them to their rental car. She sat in the back seat, silent tears streaming down her face. She lightly closed her eyes and tried hard to go to sleep and dream of better things. Clara heard Ivana and Joe talking about how she was acting out. Joe told Ivana not to be so hard on Clara, since she's only eight, then he turned on the radio.
She began to shake from trying to conceal her cries, but the music helped cover any other sound. She finally fell into a dreamless sleep until she woke up and saw they were at a gas station getting snacks for the night. She shut her eyes again to get more sleep and began dreaming of Disney World, the place she would rather be going. Disney World was so much happier and brighter. The dream put her in an illusion, making her think they were really going there.
Too bad, so sad.
When they arrived at Dark Disney, Clara awoke on her own and opened the car door. Ivana and Joe went to the trunk to get their bags. Clara realized that they drove around the park and parked at the back of the castle. When Ivana and Joe were done grabbing their things, Joe led the way to the front of the castle and to the entrance doors. There was only one guard, he checked their key and sent them on their way.
Ivana swore to herself for not suggesting the elevator as the stairs creaked beneath their feet. As the three of them reached the room, Joe unlocked the door, revealing inside a king size bed covered in gold silk sheets. At the sight Clara's breath caught in her throat. Like in my nightmare, she thought. Her hands began to shake at her sides. Joe placed the bags by the dresser and laid on his stomach on the bed; Ivana copied his actions and laid down next to him, wrapping her arm around him.
Clara was too startled and awake from all the times she had napped during the day. She sat down on the black foot stool and stared at Joe and Ivana. Joe's heavy snores filled the room, and that made Clara realize that no one closed the door. She was about to get up and close it when she heard the stairs creak. She stood up and backed away from the door; her knees wobbled, her hands shook, and her bottom lip trembled.
A shadow appeared on the stairway walls, showing that someone was coming to the room. The voice in Clara's head told her to run. She looked around the room to see if there were another door or exit. She spotted an awning window. Clara ran to it, opened it, and climbed out. To her it was high off the ground, but she jumped anyway. The air whipped through her hair and rattled her clothes until she hit the hard ground. I am alive! she thought. Clara stood up and looked up at the window; it was high up compared to her small size. She ran to the front of the castle and in through the entrance. The guard was missing.
Clara ran up the stairs and to the Cinderella Suite. When she got there, Joe and Ivana were gone and were replaced by blood where their bodies at been. Clara screamed as hot tears ran down her face and down her neck. She couldn't stop screaming. Her throat burned, but she didn't stop til she heard the stairs creak again. She shook as she once again backed away. She ran for the window, but something grabbed her foot, trying to pull her back. She screamed as she pulled herself away from it. Clara finally climbed out and jumped. When she got to the ground, twisting her ankle, she tried to run and limp away from the castle, screaming and yelling for help. "Help!" Her voice cracked from screaming so much. "Help!"
Since it was still early in the evening, the Dark Disney park was still open. Clara screamed as hard as she could and a bunch of people ran to her aide. "Sweetie, are you okay?" one lady asked her; Clara saw the woman's family standing behind her.
"Help me," she choked out before her throat tightened and her vision blurred. More hot tears ran down her face. "9-1-1, now, please," was the last thing she said before she fell to her knees, and the father of the family caught her from hitting her head on the concrete. The woman dialled 911 on her phone as her daughter put her jacket under Clara's head. Police and paramedics arrived almost immediantly. The paramedics put Clara on a stretcher and hooked her up to the equipment they had in the ambulance.
The police officers asked the family what happened and they told him what they knew. After the medics gave Clara enough oxygen, she jolted awake with a start. They asked her if she was okay and she tried to answer, but her voice was gone. A police officer immediantly pulled out a notepad and pen and gave it to her. She wrote: "I came here on vacation with my sister and her husband. We were staying in the Cinderella Suite. Someone killed them in the room while they were sleeping. The person hurt my ankle. My name is Clara Willson. My sister was Ivana Hernandez and her husband was Joe Henandez."
The officers read what Clara wrote and talked in private. They asked Clara if she has any other family, she wrote that she has her mom and dad in North Carolina. She remembered the house phone number, and she gave it to the officers. They called her mom and told her what happened. Clara's mother wouldn't stop crying for the loss of her eldest daughter and son-in-law.
Clara's mother came to Dark Disney and took her daughter home, promising to listen to her whenever and wherever.
