INSIDIOUS DOINGS
"There's something in my room!"

Moira, fourteen years old, had recently moved into a small apartment with her mom and stepdad. To avoid unpacking, Moira went out to talk to old friends and see a new horror movie, Insidious: Chapter 2. Moira had a small craving for scary movies and the thrill of terror. She enjoyed the movie with her friends and afterwards they went out for frozen yogurt.

Moira talked with Aaron and Carrie about both the yogurt and the movie, "Black Bride is pretty freakin' creepy, to be honest." Aaron told them.

"Yeah, but I felt bad for him though 'cause of his mother, you know?" Moira said as she swirled her melting yogurt in the paper bowl. Carrie nodded as she got a spoonful of her dark chocolate fro-yo. Aaron shrugged, yeah, he felt bad but c'mon, he didn't have to go psycho. Moira sighed, the night wasn't young anymore and she can feel it closing in that she'd have to go home soon.

Carrie smiled as she got a message from her boyfriend, saying how he missed her, and Aaron looked at his ex-boyfriend's Instagram account. Moira silently waited for her mom to come pick her up, if she was done unpacking. She threw out her soupy fro-yo, and heard a car honking. She looked up and saw that it wasn't her mom, it was Carrie's. Aaron and Carrie gathered their things, but hesitated, "Mo, do you want a ride?"

Moira nodded and messaged her mom saying she'll be getting a ride. Her mom responded with an, "Okay". She slid into the backseat and listened to everyone talk and only spoke when she had to. Moira had somewhat fallen asleep on the car ride home and soon enough Carrie woke her up and told her she was home. Moira rubbed her eyes and nodded before saying goodbye then opening her door and tripping on her way out.

She went inside and all the way up to her apartment and entered, greeted with the noises of Game of Thrones coming from the living room. She sighed and walked into her room after closing the front door. Her mom shouted from the living room, "How was the movie?"

"It was good, can't wait for the next one to come out." Moira shouted back. She kicked off her shoes and decided to sleep in what she's wearing. She emptied out her pockets and laid in her bed. Her stepdad hadn't put the frame together yet, so the mattress was on the floor. Her stuff was still in boxes and was pushed into her closet. She sighed and pulled the thin sheet over her head then drifted off to sleep.

 -

Moira was soundlessly sleeping until she felt a shove on her shoulders and a heavy weight on her abdomen. She tried to sit up, but she got pushed down again. She felt the sheer material on her exposed thighs. She tried to sit up again and was greeted with a face she hoped to never see again after the movie: The Black Bride.

It's just a dream, she told herself. It's just a nightmare. She felt her eyes begin to water, but she held it in.

Then it spoke, "If you try to get up again, darling, I'll kill your parents."

Moira lost it. She started crying so much more than she wanted to. The push on her shoulders got harder and the weight on her got heavier. She ignored what it had said and she pushed past it. She shoved The Black Bride out the way and ran into the living room where her mom and stepdad were.

"Mom! Mom! Mommy! There's something in my room!" Moira shouted at her mother that was barely paying attention.

Her mother responded with, "Oh, honey, it's nothing. You just had a bad dream."

"What? N - No, NO! It wasn't a nightmare, or night terror! Rick please, please check my room!" Her stepdad didn't say anything, but got up and went into her room, turning on the light to find nothing. He checked behind the door, in her closet, and out her window.

"I didn't see anything," He told Moira and her mom. Moira was crying even more, "I cannot go back in there. I can't! I can't!"

"Fine, you can sleep out here. Rick and I will watch Game of Thrones in our ro --"

"NO! Please don't leave me, it will get me! It will find me! Don't leave me!" Her mom sighed and told her she was hallucinating things from sleep deprivation. "No, I'm not, I'm not! Please believe me!"

Her mom sighed and had all them watch Game of Thrones in the living room. Moira ended up falling asleep on the loveseat and her mom had her carried to her bedroom. Her mom thought she was lying since she was acting up ever since she told Moira that they were moving. Rick doesn't think it's a good idea, but he tells himself it'll be fine.

Moira wakes up after the door has been shut. She hears the window creak open and she jumps to her feet, running to the door to open it. She twists the knob, but it doesn't open. She keeps trying, over and over again, but it won't budge. She took a quick look behind her and saw it crawl into her room.

Moira screamed and shoved herself into the door, On the second try, it opened and she ran to her parents room, screaming for help. "Mom! Rick, please open the door! Please!" She screamed and pounded on the door. She looked behind her and saw the corner of the dress of The Black Bride. "Mother, please!"

She screamed so much it began to hurt her throat. She pounded on the door as hard as she could. She stopped hitting the door and started kicking the door, creating a louder noise. Rick got up from his spot on the bed and opened the door. "Rick, please help m --" The Black Bride grabbed her by the waist and dragged her down the hall. Moira was screaming.

Rick chased after them. The Black Bride dragged Moira to her room and the door flew shut after them. Rick ran into the door and tried to open it, but it didn't budge. He backed away and kicked open the door causing it to fly open. He ran to the windowsill, but no one was there so he climbed out the window. When he landed on the ground, he heard the sound of running down the alley. He followed it, but when he caught up to the sound, it was a stray dog running. Rick stopped in his tracks and gripped his hair in frustration of not finding Moira.

It's been eleven months now, Moira has been missing since that night. No one knows if she's dead or alive. Her biological dad was doing his nightly routine of brushing his teeth and washing his face. He's laying down after doing what he had to do and is drifting off to sleep. He turns over to face the wall then feels the bed dip down and hears, "I'm sorry, dad."

He flips over and turns on his light to only find his room empty and door locked. He knew know one would be able to come in through his window because it 's a sliding window and it's blocked by an air conditioner. For the rest of the night, he lays awake in the dark.
