Chapter 3
Starfleet Academy
I stared out at the vast wasteland in front of me. There was huge building, built on top of a rocky outcrop, in the middle of a desert. The building looked like it could hold hundreds of thousands at a one time. There was glazed solar panels on the building, so it could collect massive amounts of energy deposits, from the sun that was glaring down on us and the panels would not get damaged by sandstorms.
"Keep moving, keep moving," I heard the booming voice of the pilot, say from the back of the crowd. There was some shuffling, before the group started to move forwards. I was one of the in lead because no one seemed to want to be in that position. I walked confidently across towards the Training |Complex, the Academy used to train its soldiers. I guessed they used this planet to get us used to harsh weather conditions.
When I got to the door, I looked puzzled at it, expecting it to open straight away. I saw an intercom button beside the door, I shrugged and pressed it. I heard a load buzzing sound, before a voice said, "State your business."
I thought for a moment, before I replied, "We're the recruits from D.C."
There was a pause, "Where's your Caption?"
"I dunno, probably at the back somewhere."
"Well, get him," the agitation, was clear in his voice.
"|Hey, Cappy, this guy wants to talk to you," I roared towards the back. I heard some sniggering from the recruits and an angry cough come from the intercom. There was some more shuffling as the Caption came to the front of the crowd. I recognised Cap. McCoy from the Kalvin, he gave me a wry grin and shook his head. McCoy pressed the button, "This is Cap. McCoy of the Kalvin, will you let us in now?" McCoy grinned at me as the doors opened seconds later.
We enter a long hallway, we travelled down it before it opened up into a large reception like area. There was a man standing behind a desk, waiting for us. "Sorry, sir, it took so long," the airman shuttered as he saluted Cap. McCoy.
"Stand down," McCoy said, saluting back, "Why didn't you open the door, for my good friend, here?" McCoy asked, clapping my shoulder.
"Em...protocol sir."
"But did you not here, we had a special recruit, in this batch."
"The..the one who em... save...saved your ship," the airman said, looking at me nervously.
I grinned, "Special in a good way, I hope?"
McCoy chuckled, "No."
"Humph," I said offended. "Should of just let you get destroyed," I muttered.
"Sir? Sorry to break up your...discussion, but do we not have to get the recruits new IDs and show them their quarters?"
"Ah...yes," McCoy said, noticing the rest of the recruits, who were watching us interestedly. A few gave me odd looks, Clark and Amy among them, obviously they didn't believe. "Everyone line up in single file, just give..." McCoy looked at the airman and frowned.
"Shaw."
"Shaw here your old IDs and any extra information he might need," continued McCoy unfazed, "Sheppard, here, will be first, he said, clapping my shoulder again. Everyone started muttering and the mention of my name, I thought I heard someone say "The Sheppard?", but I shrugged it off, walking over to Airman Shaw.
"ID please," Shaw said, looking at me with interest. I gave him my ID, which he swiped into a machine, attached to his computer. "Okay, I see your 15 Earth years, I guess you aren't currently employed?"
"Actually, I'm a fighter pilot for O'Brianfreighters."
He looked at me shocked, "Em...ok, I guess you'll be a fighter-pilot, good" I just grinned and nodded. "Here's your new ID," he said, handing me it, basically nothing had changed, except it said Military instead of Civilian, "Just head down the door on your left and you should see a sigh saying Testing Room, just go in there and they'll tell you what to next."
Testing Room that didn't should good. I walked down the hallway he told me to go and quickly saw the 'Testing Room'. I exhaled and walked into the room, shrugging off the
bad-feeling I was getting.
"Em...Hello?" I said, looking around the room, seeing no one. I took my time to look around the room since, no one was there. I saw lots of different medical equipment, to test breathing and other functions of the body like muscle reflex and stamina.
An old man walked into the room and paused when he saw me, "Ah...you must be the first recruit. I'm Doc. Becket," he said holding out his hand. I smiled and shook his hand, I couldn't help but like the old man.
"I'm Adam Sheppard."
"O your John's son, I heard a lot about you, I was the medic on the ship your father worked on," I just noticed he had a Scottish accent.
"Ya, my father told me about you."
"Great man, he is. i should probably get to testing you."
"Sure thing Doc. what first?"
"Will do your breathing first, then muscle reflex then stamina, so on so forth."
All the tests went perfectly and the Doc. said I was the best recruit he had ever seen. by the time the tests were done, two people were waiting in line. "O and Adam," I heard the Doc. say, I turned around, "Welcome to Starfleet Academy."
