Brunettes Are My Weakness

Tyler Foley

'That's really funny, Bryce, but I swear to God, if you don't pay me back for that scratch I will shove my keys so far up your ass that you-'

'Yo, Ty-Ty. T-Dog. I'll pay you back, okay?'

I scanned over the drunk mess in front of me and resisted the urge to swing my fists at his head. Swinging my legs to straddle my sleek black bike I glared at Bryce as he tipped his beer bottle at me.

My eyes flickered from him to the key in my hand. 'It'll be up your ass Bryce. Pay up.'

I didn't overlook the unshielded terror in his eyes.

The soft purr of my treasured motorcycle was all I could hear as I cruised along the motorway. Today hadn't been a bad day. All my unfinished business in California had officially been dealt with. Except Bryce fucking Wilson.

I counted off the things I had achieved that day in a mental checklist. There was Danielle at the top of the list- the biggest nuisance in California. The slightly psychotic on-again-off-again girlfriend that any self-respecting player had to have. A smug smirk pulled at my lips as I recalled the memory of Danielle's face as I dumped her in front of her entire cheerleading team. Humiliated in her own fucking territory. I mean, if we were moving, I had to cut all my ties from California. I couldn't deal with that long-distance shit.

Holy shit.

That was today wasn't it. As if on cue, my phone vibrated against my thigh and I pulled up, answering the call.

'What's up, Dad?' I cried nonchalantly. Too nonchalant for a teenage boy with daddy issues.

'You know exactly what's p, Tyler Foley. Get your useless ass into the airport now.' He hissed urgently.

'I'm on it.'

'I told you. Don't forget it Tyler, this is important. But what does my idiot of a son go and do? Forget all about it.'

I throw my head back and groan, bringing a hand to massage my temples. These lectures were getting to my fucking head if I'm honest.

'Okay but can we just skip to the forgiving shit now?' I groaned out more to myself than my muttering dad.

'Follow me,' he muttered taking long strides to the plane. Twirling a cigarette in my hand I trailed behind him.

'Tyler. Tyler? For fuck's sake Tyler were you listening to a word I said?'

I didn't even know he was talking.

'We're going to be living in Alaska with Lucy Reed and her daughter Andrea Reed.'

'Alaska?' I echo.

No. No fucking way.

'- I know it's a bit cold and different to what we're used to but I'm willing to go through that for Lucy. She's not like any other woman I've ever met.'

'Oh, Dad!' I simpered mockingly, 'she sounds real great!'

...great enough to completely uproot us to a place where I had to live with fucking polar bears running around.

'She really is,Tyler.' He continued without a care in the world and not noticing the extreme sarcasm in my words. 'And I'm telling you she's stunning...'
