Ellie’s POV **
“Here’s your ticket and boarding pass sweetheart. Have a safe flight!” My mom kissed me on the cheek and gave me a big hug before my dad did the same. After a few moments, they turned and left with tears in their eyes. My heart broke a little at the sight of it, but I just couldn’t turn down a scholarship to Julliard could I? I stood and watched their silhouettes shrink as they walked further away.
I’m on my own now.
I went through security, found my gate, and took a seat to wait the two hours before boarding. Burying my nose in a book, I did my best to shut out the world for a while and escape the stresses of leaving for college and being eighteen. I never thought it would be this difficult.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a young man sat across from me. I could feel a pair of eyes on me, and I knew it was him, but I stuck my nose a little deeper into the novel to avoid conversation with a stranger. He was staring, and it was awkward, so I decided to leave and grab a quick lunch before the flight. I stood up and began to pull out the handle on my suitcase when the young man stood up and took a step toward me.
“Would you like me to pull that for you?” He said, surprising me with his forward attitude. I tried hard not to look at him, and decline his offer as nicely as possible, but I just couldn’t help myself. I lifted my head and took a look at him. He had blue eyes. Piercing blue eyes; the kind that catch your gaze, and burn through your own. He was a little on the tall side. About 5’10’ I’d guess. With beach blonde hair, blue eyes, and height on his side, he probably thought I wouldn’t be able to resist.
“Um no thank you, I’ve got it.” I put my hair behind my ears and looked at the floor again, as the floor was a lot less likely to stare at me uncomfortably. I grabbed the handle and started to walk away when I felt him touch my arm. A little in shock that he would put a hand on me, I turned and looked at him again.
“C’mon. I’ve got nothing else to do. Let me help you out.” He shot a killer smile in my direction, trying to win me over, and I knew he wasn’t going to let this one go, so I agreed. Handing over my suitcase to him, we started to walk.
“So where are we going?” He asked immediately.
“Shhh. You offered to pull my suitcase, now do so, and follow me.” I didn’t want to sound rude, but he was kind of bothering me and I hoped he was getting that vibe. Nothing against him personally, because I don’t even know the kids name, I just had a lot on my mind and didn’t feel like socializing at the airport.
“Sorry geez.” He put a hand in the air as to imply his innocence. “Why are you so crabby?”
“I’m not crabby.” I was trying my best to defend myself while searching for a pizzeria.
“Okay, okay.” He said. “So what’s your name?”
“Eliza. I’m called Ellie though. What about you?” I turned to look at him in wait for his response.
“Andrew.”
“Do you go by Drew or…?” I smiled to let him know I was joking, and he smiled back, looking a bit confused at my change in attitude.
“Nope, it’s just Andrew.” He let out a ghost of a giggle, and smiled at to the tile floor. I spotted a little café not far from where we were walking, and pointed it out. I was letting those eyes get to me.
“I’m going to stop for lunch. Wanna join me?” I pointed to the little café and turned to face him.
“Are you paying?”
