Ellie’s POV**

Did he really just say what I think he said…..? We can’t be on the same flight! He’s too big of a distraction! I definitely do not need this right now….

“We’re on the same flight?” I asked as calmly as I could manage, swallowing hard and trying not to look too worried. I could feel the blood rushing to my cheeks, and I did my best to conceal my freak out moment. I’ve had so many in my lifetime, yet I still haven’t figured out how to hide them…

“Yeah, I think we’re on the same flight. Lemme see your boarding pass.” He held out his hand, waiting for me to just hand it over. I had to think for a moment where it was before I remembered I put it in my purse. I signaled for him to wait while I dug around for it, finally pulling out a crumbled piece of paper, barely legible. He took it from me with a smirk smeared all over his face and I could tell he wanted to make fun of how completely disorganized I am. I’m glad he kept his mouth shut about it though, or he would’ve put me right back in that bad mood he brought me out of in the first place.

“Yup.” He popped the ‘P’. “We’re on the same flight.”

How could this happen? I’m supposed to be going off to college, not hanging out with some random guy on a four hour flight. And don’t get me wrong, I want to be friends with him, but now is not the time to be making friends. I need to focus on school for a while before I even think about guys.

“Oh cool.” I tried hard not to show exactly how this could ruin all my plans.

I just need to avoid him for four hours… Only four hours…

I tried not to look at him, or talk to him, or lead him on in any way. I didn’t want him getting the wrong vibe, but he kept trying to make conversation. Also not wanting to be rude, I decided to let loose for now, and enjoy my last few hours of being a “kid.”

“How old are you Andrew?” I was curious, only because he didn’t seem to be quite as old as I was.

“I’m twenty one.” He said, surprising me as I looked him over again. He looked a lot younger than he was. If I had to guess, I’d say he looked about seventeen. Maybe he just had one of those faces… “You?” He asked.

“Oh, I’ll be nineteen next month.” I said, hoping to shock him as much as he shocked me. He quickly gave me a confused look, and I knew he was surprised because of how incredibly short I am. He probably thought I was twelve or something. “I know, I’m short.” I said with a smile, to save him from the awkwardness of having to tell me himself.

“That’s not what I was thinking!” He said, trying to defend himself… Cute.

“It’s okay, I know I’m short. It’s alright.” I said. He simply smiled at me, leaving me a little puzzled and curious as to what exactly he was thinking.

“Okay. Since we’re asking questions, where ya from?”

Here we go…

“I’m from here in Albuquerque. Lived here my whole life.” I said. “And you?”

“Same. I’m going to Manhattan for a wedding.”

“Boarding flight 204, gate D” I stood and walked to the gate a few feet away from where Andrew and I were seated, making sure that he remembered the suitcase he insisted on pulling. I handed the attendant my horrid boarding pass, secretly hoping he would somehow be able to read it. He ripped off the stub and handed it to me.
