Danaya emerged from the tents and approached Muros who had just finished talking to one of Amihan's trusted advisers, Imaw, an elder of the Adamyans. Imaw inclined his head towards her in greeting then walked away, leaving her alone with Muros.

"I'm sorry to hear about what happened to our other soldiers." She told Muros.

Muros nodded, then took a deep breath, placed his fist over his chest and made a deep bow.  "Sang'gre Danaya, I'd like to ask for your forgiveness."  He looked miserable and unsure of himself as he spoke, so unlike him, that all her anger at him evaporated. "I didn't know that-"

She interrupted him, "Think no more of it, Muros."

He looked at her hesitantly.

"Have you seen Aquil?" she asked.

He heaved a sigh quietly and turned away instead.

Wantuk spoke up as he walked over to them, "He's looking for Alira, Sang'gre."

"I see."

So that was it.  Aquil and Alira had been spending time together while she was gone.  She didn't notice that Muros was now staring at her preoccupied face with a crestfallen expression.

He paused for a moment then steeled himself and addressed her.  "Sang'gre, do you wish to spar? If you like, I can practise with you instead."

Muros smiled at her encouragingly.

Meanwhile, Wantuk was looking at both of them, his brows knit together.

She smiled back at Muros gratefully.  He always knew how to make her feel better.

"Thank you, Muros. I'm fortunate that you, at least, are always by my side."

He nodded then turned away and murmured under his breath, "I'm glad you finally noticed."

"What was that, Muros?"

He glanced back at her.  "Oh... Uh, shall we go, sang'gre?" He stood aside and motioned for her to walk ahead of him.

She nodded in return and headed for the outskirts of the camp.

Muros watched her go and couldn't suppress his pleased smile.  He made to follow her but Wantuk blocked his path.

"Muros! Please don't tell me you're also my rival for Sang'gre Danaya's affections! Not you, too!"  Wantuk asked, with an aggrieved tone.  Muros would have laughed at Wantuk's comical expression except that the smaller man sounded genuinely dismayed.

Checking if Danaya was watching them, Muros turned Wantuk around and nudged him toward the trees. '"Why don't you talk to the pashneas instead?"

Then he stared at Danaya's departing back and smiled, something he had not done in a long while, and followed her.
