Here it was.
Aaron's funeral.
I didn't really feel the need to go, as I knew the dude for 3 days, but I wanted to be there for Aphmau no matter what. And I felt terrible about what happened.
She didn't speak much during the funeral. She just kept staring at the ground, letting her hair fall over her face.
She looked gorgeous, to say the least. She had a black dress on, with lace at the long sleeves. I mean, it was a funeral, but she could have gone to a party after and no one would have known.
After the ceremony, she talked to Aaron's parents a little bit, and hugged them. I only saw her cry once, and it was when they lowered his body into the ground.
This was good. I mean, not that he died, but I think the funeral is what she needed. Closure.
Aphmau was talking to a woman who looked like her. I assumed it was her mom, and I awkwardly hurried away from there. There was no way I was about to talk with her after what Aphmau has told me about her. Long story short, she's crazy about boys.
Anyways, I spotted Laurance across the room. Things have been awkward between us recently, after he blew up on me about that whole 'I've been trying forever to get her' thing he had going on.
"Hey, dude." Dante walked towards me with Jenna at his side. "How's Aphmau holding up?"
"She's been doing pretty good." I shrugged. "She hasn't wanted to talk much, and I completely understand, but she seems fine."
"She's strong." Jenna nodded. "God, if I ever lost you like that, Dante, I don't know what I'd do with myself."
He smiled, kissing her cheek. "I'm not going anywhere."
She grinned back.
I cleared my throat, rolling my eyes at their cuteness. "Aaron and Aphmau had problems. They broke it off about 5 minutes before he died."
"Woah." Dante muttered. "I didn't know that. She's been really strong."
"I fell out of love." Aphmau appeared at my side. "I mean, I still loved him as a friend, but it just wouldn't work out. I lost hope for us."
My eyes landed on her, and I felt my heart rate increase.
"I understand, honey." Jenna nodded, sighing. "You did nothing wrong. We're all proud of you."
"You're the strongest girl I know." I wrapped my arm around her waist, and she leaned into me, letting out a huge breath.
"Thanks, you guys." She ran a hand through her hair. "My mom wants to meet you guys. Um, not you, Dante, as she already knows you, but Jenna and Garroth."
Fuck.
What was I even worried about? It's not like she told her mom about us.
Us. What a funny word. What even were we? Was I anything to her?
"I'd love to meet her." I suddenly said, clearing my throat as I snapped back to reality.
"As would I." Jenna grinned.
Aphmau nodded, slightly smiling. "Later. Anyway, can I tell you guys something?"
"Always." I said.
"What is it?" Dante asked, while Jenna just nodded.
She lowered her voice. "This funeral is shitty."
