*psst, play the song!*
-----He had pale skin and dark blonde hair. The bags under his eyes showed just how tired and mysterious he was.
The music in his car gently hummed as he looked at me. With a duck of his head, his eyes shifted up to mine. I adjusted slightly under his gaze. I felt a breeze whip around me and a chill shot up my spine.
"You need a ride?" He asked with a deep voice. It reminded me of caramel. Smooth and rich but with a hint of something that I couldn't quite put my finger on.
"I'm good," I said as I stood at the bus stop. It was late and practically pitch black out. The only light came from the old lamppost above me. I was showered in a golden orange tint.
"You shouldn't have to wait all by yourself," he said. He looked at me intently with an emotion I couldn't read. His loose curls fell into his eyes and his long eyelashes peeked through the strands.
"I think I'll manage," I responded. I tried to hide yet another chill that ran through me, but I did a poor job in doing so.
"You're freezing. I can take you home if you need me to."
I gave him a once over. "Thank you," I said. "But I don't accept rides from strangers."
"Yet you wait for a sketchy bus full of them," he said. I narrowed my eyes at him. He let out a small sigh and looked down for a moment. "Are you sure you don't want one?"
"I'm sure, Stranger." I crossed my arms over my chest.
He looked at me for a moment before smirking. "You have a lot of confidence for a five foot two teenager."
I arched an eyebrow at him. "And how old are you? You don't look anything over at least eighteen."
"Try twenty," he said. I don't know why, but a strange feeling planted itself inside my stomach as soon as those words left his lips. What was someone nearly four years my senior doing talking to a girl like me?
I tried to act older and less nervous than I actually was as I said, "I've seen freshman who look older than you." That wasn't true but he did look young. "And I'm not five two. I'm five five."
"Maybe in those heels," he said. It was true. The heels added about two inches to my normal height; which was actually five three.
I didn't normally wear heels but the occasion called for it. But just because the occasion called for it didn't exactly mean I was happy in doing so. I was more of a throw-on-a-pair-converse type person.
I shifted yet again under his gaze and looked over to my left. It was almost two in the morning and the bus still hadn't gotten there yet. It was cold and I was wearing very little to cover me.
I heard him as he let out another small sigh through his nose. "You'll be waiting for a while," he said. "The bus doesn't pick anyone up at this hour."
I looked at him quizzically but all he did was nod his head behind me. I turned and saw a board with different time stamps on it. He was right. The next pick up for this stop was at five o'clock in the morning.
I let out an aggravated sigh and looked to my left again; the direction where the bus would have been coming from if it were picking anyone up at this hour. Which it wasn't.
I looked back over to the stranger in front of me. He still leaned against his elbow to get a better look at me as his gaze never left my face.
His eyes were barley visible in the darkness of his car and it left haunting shadows across his face.
For a moment, I actually almost considered his offer. But then reality kicked in and my smarts came flooding back.
"I think I'll just call someone," I said as I whipped out my phone. He probably thought that I was some prostitute or something. And I wasn't about to get abducted by some loner driving around at two in the morning looking for a good time.
He stared at the device in my hand for a moment before looking back up at me. "You sure?"
"Yes," I answered. I scrolled through my contacts and landed on the one wth my sister's name on it. I had to ask for yet another favor from her but it was better than getting inside some stranger's car.
He just stared at me as I dialed my older sister and held the phone up to my ear. I couldn't for the life of me read his expression which in itself was slightly unnerving.
After a small beat, he simply responded with, "Alright." He reached over and turned his music up slightly. "Stay safe. There're a lot of creeps around here." He looked at me with intense eyes as he said, "You can never be too careful."
A shiver ran through me as I stared into them. It was too dark out to see the color of his irises, but his eyes were captivating.
Before I could say anything more, he drove off. And left me with more questions than what was good for me.

Heyo! I thought shorter chapters would help me stay on track and motivated to keep going without the pressure of meeting a certain word count or whatever. So here's a baby chapter of a new story I'm dabbling with. Also, The Night We Met was the song that was playing in his car during this first encounter (It's also the song that I wrote this chapter to). It has that hauntingly beautiful sound to it (especially the first first 15-30 seconds), and that's exactly the kind of vibe that the stranger in the car brings. :)
Anyway, thanks for reading! (as always)
