Drifting.

I feel nothing. Every inch of me is numb. Nothing can be heard, felt, nor seen, except for the black void in which I float in. But unlike any darkness I've ever experienced, this pitch black is soothing. Like a soundless lullaby. My soul is apart from my body. My mind is at peace and I slowly start to envision blotches of soft lilacs and baby blues, but they disappear almost as fast as they came.

More blotches appear and their colors grow more intense than the last. But they vanish and I am left, once again, in the empty black void. But this time, the black is cold. The soothing feeling I once possessed is dripping away. A body begins to take shape around my consciousness.

That body is mine.

First the bones appear. I watch in horror as I sense that soothing feeling dripping down my bones, like poison. Away from me. It starts from my head then down my neck and shoulders, until it makes its way to my limbs. Tiny droplets form and release at my fingertips and toes.

Then muscles appear. I witness pink tissue with spidery veins wrap around my feet and continue wrapping upwards until it reaches my head. It isn't until the muscles reach my mid torso, that I hear a mellow beating.

At first the tempo is slow and echoing. This simple symphony fills the space around me.

Skin and hair appears. Freckles and tiny moles on my arms fade into sight. My body becomes a map as these beauty marks begin to form constellations. I can feel hair sprouting out of my head like flowers blooming in the springtime. The hair grows long and flows around me. From the strands in front of my face, I can see that the hair is black with subtle hints of dark green and purpley-blues as the light hits it just right.

Wait. Light?

In front of me, but what seems lightyears away, a tiny star appears. As it moves closer it reveals its red tinge and I can see it pulsing to the beat of whatever sound surrounds me.

At a slow rate, the tempo begins to pick up and the star seems to be getting closer, pulsing a brighter red. The tempo starts to speed up even more and the star seems to be getting closer as if it's spiraling towards me. I can feel its heat growing. Then, the tempo grows rapid and the star is quickly gaining speed in my direction. I feel an uncomfortable burning sensation. I try wiggling to get out of the way but my body stays put. The beating sound grows so intense, my ears start pulsing and a drop of sweat falls down my face. I try to scream, but nothing happens. I can't feel any movement or hear any sound other than that intoxicating beat. The beat grows even faster and the star is now inches away. It's about to strike. It's now so hot that I can't breathe and I feel as if my skin is crisping, getting ready to flake.

Then the star hits and I feel cold.
