Back at Mt. Justice

Dick's POV

I sit on the couch, leaning forward, with my elbows on my knees and my hands folded together. I run my hand through my hair. It's greasy because I haven't showered in days or changed my costume. I've been too busy trying to find where those henchmen took M'gann and where Melody is.

Like most nights, Melody and I had slept together. When I woke up in her room, she was gone. I had thought she was in the kitchen, but when I looked, she was nowhere to be found. No one had heard from her. Quickly, I hacked the city's street cameras and couldn't find any clues.

So the Young Justice team and I split up to search Gotham. We each had teams of four. My team included M'gann, Beast Boy, and Robin. Each team was ambushed by a couple men dressed in black. At first, I thought them to be just regular henchman, but they somehow were able to fly, shoot lasers out of their eyes and fire some sort of purple energy out of their hands.

What concerned me the most, was when they're powers went away. The ability to fly and shoot purple energy was done and the men became easier to fight, but it was too late because more henchmen had come and took M'gann. But why only M'gann? Why do they only need her and Melody?

Someone enters the living room and I immediately recognize the footsteps belong to Aqualad.

"There has to be something we've missed," I say. My tone of voice doesn't sound like myself. Behind each word I sound cold and distant. Each syllable has hint of metal to it.

"Batman and the rest of the Justice League are working on it," Aqualad says as he joins me on the couch and pats my back firmly.

"God, Dick! When's the last time you showered?," he says as coughs and fans his hand in front of his face as if my fumes were visibly in front of him.

I shoot him a small half smile, but he can tell I am still lost in thought.

"Alright, how about you go clear your head in the shower, and meet me back in the training room. Looks to me like you need to punch something," Aqualad says as he pats my back reassuringly and leaves the room.

I go up to Melody's room. My eyes widen the second the automatic steel door slides open. The room feels strange without her presence. All her stuff is here, but she's not. I'm not sure what I need more: to find more clues to her disappearance or to find some comfort. Either way, the room makes me miss her.

I take in the room. I walk over to her bed and plop down. As soon as my head hits the pillow, Melody's sweet scent left on the pillows and sheets fill the air around me. I look at her walls. She has posters of her favorite martial artists and dancers. On her nightstand, I see the binder with all of the songs she's written. I don't sift through it because I know her songs are very personal and I'd feel bad to invade her privacy. Like me, she has a past she keeps hidden and I respect that so I try not to lurk. I grab her purple hoodie off the side of the bed and bring it to my face. I inhale and a tears start to form. Her smell tricks my mind into thinking she is with me, when in reality, she is very far from me.

This isn't fair. She was stolen from me so quickly. I remember when we first found her. Well, MJ found her. I remember the day Melody walked through the zeta tube with MJ and Batman.  I remember the feeling of butterflies in  my stomach when I shook her hand and welcomed her to the team. Because of the legacy she left with us, Young Justice will never be the same now, even though she's only been with us for the past year.

I take my mask off and let tears stream down my face as I think about how scared Melody must be right now. I can't help, but immediately think the worse. What if she endured a torturous death?

My stomach turns at the thought of her being dead. What if those henchmen used their powers to kill her? Purple lasers and fire and-WAIT.

Melody is the only person I know who can fly and shoot purple lasers out of their eyes and purple bolts out of their hands. Only two men in black out of the dozens at the scene, possessed those powers, but temporarily. This means the powers don't belong to them. It must be some drug, but where could they have gotten a substance that mocks the powers of Melody?

Unless they're taking those powers from Melody.

THEY MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH MELODY'S DISAPPEARANCE.

It's time to track them down and follow them to their base. I grab for my communicator and tell the team along with Batman to meet at the base. Hold on, Melody. I'm going to find you.
