"Have someone delivered a new dictionary?" I asked Maria, who was already getting ready to leave. I sat on the cash desk and crossed my legs. The library was nearly empty because every Friday there is a support group that consists in here.
"You and your obsession with words." She chuckled reaching under the countertop. It is true I love words, I mean, who doesn't, but my love for words is a lot bigger than most people's.
The nearly forty-year-old women handed me a tiny book with turquoise covers." This is your birthday present from me." She smiled softly at my wide grin as I took the little dictionary from her and looked it over.
"But my birthday is after a few days." I said reading my new book's title. It read "Logolepsy". For people who don't know what that means, logolepsy is a fascination with words and something I decidedly have.
"I know but I'm going to Spain to see my family so I decided to give it to you now." She replied looking at my hands witch were still playing with the books pages. I put the dictionary on one side, spread my hands and hugged her.
"Thank you so much!"I hugged her tighter.
"Ugh, what a happy person you are."She whined because of my tight grip.
If only...
As I was hugging her it hit me hard and my eyes widened in realization.
"Wait! Does that mean that I'll have to run the library?" I pulled away from the hug, looking Maria straight into her dark eyes.
"Well, you'll have to-" she began but I cut her off.
"And I'll have all the books for myself?" I asked gushing.
"It's not like you didn't so far but technically, yes and-" She tried to continue but I continued babbling."Yes, but...no just-" she tried to respond to all my questions and I didn't really help her with that because I was exited about my little upcoming adventure.
I have only been left alone at work a few times when Maria wants to get some food because she 'didn't get a proper lunch because of that annoying guy that kept asking her dumb questions' or them few times when she 'had to pick her daughter from practice because her husband had to get the dog to the vet'. I admire the bond her family has built and I secretly wish my family was still like that too.
Well I actually kind of stay at the library alone, except for the bunch of young people, on Fridays from four to five at the Support group, but stay quiet about that because I am actually not allowed to wonder around the library at that time. Everyone has to leave when the support group consists but I don't and that's something I do from a while now.
"Just let me talk, Iris!" Maria quipped slightly annoyed.
"Oh, okay sorry." I mumbled and straightened up to show her that she has my full attention now.
