CHAPTER 2.
******
The music was blaring and everyone was cheering. I could hear my name being shouted out as I surfed the crowd---
"Tori! Get up!" My mom said as she ripped the covers from my body. "You have an hour to get dressed and grab all your bags."
Of course. My mom had to interrupt my dream again. Not that I should've been interested in the dream anyway, they're always too good to be true then I wake up to my suckish life.
I got out of bed only to fall asleep in the bathroom. I had gone to bed at 1:00 am because all night I was reading this amazing book I'm glued to called Stupify by little_red_guitar. I was trying to read as much as I could because my mom said that while I'm on vacation I can't do anything involving my book club because "it's not exciting enough". Says the lady who went to a history museum for her birthday.
"Tori, you better be getting dressed in there!" My mom said, pounding on my bathroom door.
"Ugh. I am mom!" I said picking my body up from the bathroom floor.
After I had gotten dressed I put in my contacts, practically dropping them down the sink, and grabbed my bags. My three bags couldn't compare to my mom's 1,000 (give or take a few) bags. I lugged them down the stairs and collapsed at the bottom of the stairs, still tired.
"Make sure you grab some breakfast before we leave sweetie, then get in the car," my mom said running around making sure she didn't forget anything.
I just walked to the pantry, got a bagel and stuck it in my mouth. Wow, even my breakfasts were boring. Then I grabbed my bags and went outside to put them in our minivan.
As I was putting the bags in the car, the devil in disguise, Heather Olivia Tyler walked out of her house. I couldn't stand her just like she couldn't stand me. She was the complete definition of a word-whose-name-starts-with-a-b-which-I-can't-say-because-my-mom-is-one-of-them. She even got her name changed so her initials could be H.O.T. Instead of P.O.T. and she walks around school saying stupid things like "I'm thankful that god made me this gorgeous" and "I would tell you to just be yourself but wouldn't you rather be me?"
"Hey Vic-BORE-ia. Are you finally moving away?" Heather said as she approached me. Gosh, even at 8 in the morning she still looked good.
"Umm no...I'm going on vacation for the summer" I replied quietly. She was annoyingly intimidating.
"Oh yea! Your mom came over to tell my mom that you guys would be gone 'til the end of August. It's a shame that I couldn't have hung out with you at the beginning of summer break. Oh wait, I didn't want to!
"Whatever Heather," I said, putting on my hood to cover my face.
"Oh good morning Heather!"
Great. My mom always has to be the one to talk to Heather and tell me to just befriend her. "We were just about to leave."
"Well have a good time! Bye Tori," Heather said as she gave me an "evil" grin.
We got in the car and as we drove off, she waved at me, laughing.
Gosh I can't stand her. She's actually making me glad to see my grandmother .
We pulled into my grandmother's drive way after about an hour of driving. Her house was big and probably made in the 60's, but it was still really nice on the outside.
"Tori, honey," my mom said waking me up, "we're here!"
I shot my head up so fast that I banged it on the car roof. "OWW."
We got out of the car and walked up to the front door. As soon as I pressed the doorbell, it started playing the tune of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Oh great, this is the lady I'm stuck with for the summer, I thought.
The door swung open and a cheerful elderly lady, about 5'4, with a wrinkly but still pretty face stood there. Well, there was no denying our relation. She had hazel eyes, high cheek bones, and hair that was once dark brown. Yep, we could be twins...except for the fact that my hair isn't gray and my teeth are real.
"Oh my god, I totally lost track of time and now you're here! Well, come in come in!" She said, taking mine and my mom's arms and pulling us inside.
I looked around and saw the vintage furniture. The house smelled like lilacs and cinnamon. My mother and I sat down on the sofa in the living room while my grandmother smiled widely at us. It was a little creepy.
"Wow! I am so glad to be seeing you two. Would you ladies like some tea or coffee?" She asked.
"Umm actually I should get going," my mom replied checking her watch. "I'll just go grab Victoria's bags out of the car." And with that she left the house leaving me with the elderly version of me.
"Victoria sweetie," my grandmother said, "You have grown so much! The last time I saw you was when you were a little baby. We called you roly poly because you were so quiet and liked to curl up."
Wow so even when I was baby I was boring, I thought.
My mom came back in with my luggage and set them down. "Ok Tori. I'm leaving now." She kissed me on the cheek and whispered to me, "Please have fun and don't be so negative. This will be good for both you and your grandma."
"Yea I know, I know," I whispered back annoyed.
With that, my mom left and was off to Australia. I turned around and saw my agenda for the summer: having fun with a perky 62 year old woman in the countryside.
Yea sure, this will be something to put in the scrapbook.
