A Fool’s Game

Chapter Three

Savannah

The lights of the large vanity shined in my eyes so brightly that I could barely see clear. It was the first time all afternoon that I actually had gotten to see myself and I was about to the point where I didn’t even care. Besides, there was only so much she could do to change my appearance. We had spent the beginning of the day in and out of all the high fashion clothing stores in New York City. And let me tell you, it was nice. I had been catered to all day and she had bought me so many different outfits that I couldn’t even remember half of them. Afterwards, we came back to the estate where the best hair dressers and makeup artists in the city were setting up in her bathroom. It took me a long while to remember, it was all for me. And after the hours on end spent on my hair and makeup, all I knew was that I better look different. I hadn’t even seen myself and I already felt prettier than I did.

"Now, open your eyes." Camilla squealed from behind me. If my eyes had been open, I probably would have rolled them. She had done nothing but boss everyone this afternoon and it had gotten so annoying that I almost called it quits, twice. But, what could I possibly say? It was her house and her money that was paying for all of this.

I swallowed hard, "Can I have my glasses back? I can’t really see a thing without them." I told her.

Camilla huffed out a big breath, "That reminds me…I picked something up for you." I watched through my blurry eyes to see her rummaging around the room looking for something. After a moment, she walked back towards me and held out something. "Put these in." She demanded.

I squinted terribly bad and brought the little container up to my eyes. Contacts? I had never really been able to wear them; they had always irritated my eyes badly. "I…They hurt my eyes." And it wasn’t a lie. Ever since I had been in the sixth grade, I had tried wearing contacts on and off but they made my eyes so irritated that it was crazy. There wasn’t a part of me that wanted to keep wearing those geeky glasses but I had no choice. I could already tell from the look Camilla was giving me, it was either wear those suckers or be blind for the next two months.

Again, Camilla sighed and shook her head. "Look if you want your schooling paid off then I suggest you do everything I say. If you don't pull this off…Then there will be no payment. And it’s obvious, I have bright green eyes. Put them in Savannah."

Without speaking, I walked over to the vanity and began putting the colored contacts in. It took moments before I could actually open my eyes to see myself in full view so I stood there with my eyes squeezed shut.

"Any day now…" Camilla said, irritated.

Despite the fact that I had found Camilla to be domineering and bossy I opened my eyes. For a moment, I was shocked. I swallowed hard and realized that it was actually me standing in the mirror and I, in fact, looked breathtakingly different than I did just this morning. My breath caught and I bit on my bottom lip to hide the smile that was starting to spread on my lips. "Wow…" I said, breathlessly.

I stood there wearing a ruby red dress that was strapless and hit right above my knee cap. I knew it was designer because I wasn’t allowed to buy anything that wasn’t. The dull blonde color that used to take over my hair was now a platinum blonde color but it wasn’t bad like I thought it would be. It was just brighter and looked silky. And in no way did it look fake. The length of my hair was also much longer. Before today, the tips of my hair hit right below my shoulders and now they are well past my breasts, just like Camilla’s. It was totally different from my normal crazy curled hair because it was now straight as a board. My eyes, once blue were now a bright green color. Almost greener than grass itself. I guess they were pretty but I was so used to my blue eyes. The make-up specialist had done an amazing job because for once, I actually looked gorgeous. They golden and brown colors around my eye lids made the green color in my eyes stand out even more than it normally would have. And the red lipstick reminded me so much of Molly because she never left her house without her ruby red lips. Was this how Molly always felt when she left her home?
