I want to grow up

Rose’s p.o.v

I panted my legs throbbing from running frantically down the empty dark hallways. Behind my heavy labored breath I could make out the faint sounds of the night time crickets, and the soft lulling sound of other nighttime creatures. My boots clicked loudly echoing through the enclosed corridors.

“Wait up~!!” I wailed seeing the back of the now familiar white uniforms.

“Ah, Rose-chan.” Hearing me Takuma stopped to wait for me to catch up.

Feeling my jelly legs trip over one another I was sent forward to hit the ground with a loud embarrassing ‘thud’.

“Ta-ta-ta..” I grunted sitting up holding my forehead.

“Are you okay Rose-chan?” Takuma asked his hand extended to help me up.

“N-n-no! I’m okay!” I frantically picked up my scattered books and papers. “See!” I jumped up waving my arms around to show him I was just fine.

He chuckled patting my head, a gesture he’d done before when I was younger, bringing back a nostalgic feeling. Feeling his cold fingers brush against the top of my head reminded me of how much I missed them.

“Be careful next time.” He turned entering the classroom, but not before I caught his last words that left me to stand outside the door at a state of shock, “Such a little kid.”

I felt myself grow stiff, my limbs not moving an inch. ‘little kid.. little kid..’ the words he had said repeated themselves in my head making me stand as stiff as a statue.

“Ah, Rose.” A female voice called from behind.

I slowly cranked my neck to see Rima standing behind me with Shiki at her side.

“R-Rima!!” my tear ducks produced large tears that welled in my eyes as I glomped onto.

“Eh?” she easily caught me in her arms with her vampire reflexes.

I rubbed my face into her shoulder the large tears still in my eyes. Rima was one of the few vampires I could easily approach without feeling overwhelmed by their vampiric aura. You could say that we’d become friends over the short time span I had attended the Night class.

“Am I a little kid?” I sniffed staring up at her with wet glimmering eyes.

“Eh?” she repeated her purple eyes looking at me in confusion.

“Yes.” Shiki replied in a level tone.
