Slightly cloudy with a chance of rain...
THE TRAFFIC'S BOOMING clamor invaded my ears as I hastened out of Starbucks. Dozens of questions ran through my mind.
"Who could've known my name? I hadn't spoken to anyone in the building, let alone order a drink. And the message. Why would someone write down that message, and of all places on a Starbucks cup? Are they trying to talk to me, maybe get my attention? Who would be stupid enough to think I would just go and find them?! Ughh, what a damn stalker!"
"Um, are you okay?" said a mysterious voice behind me.
I turned around and found a familiar face. Thank goodness! "Iris! I am so glad to see you!" I exclaimed.
"I am, too, Skye, but what's your deal? I was just walking by and saw you. Why were you were yelling at traffic?"
"Oh, that was nothing, sorry."
"It's okay, as long as you're, you know.....not crazy," Iris said, choosing her last words carefully.
"Yeah, I'm just fine. You don't need to worry about me," I replied as if the last ten minutes hadn't happened.
"Okay, then. Do you want to come over? We can walk; my house is about three blocks from here."
"That'd be perfect! I could really use some peace right now," I said.
"Cool. C'mon, let's start walking." With those words we walked towards Iris's house on Debra Dr..
My feet tapped on the grey pavement as I walked, creating a soft beat. I looked up at the ashen sky. The brushed undertones of the clouds matched the cement sidewalk, both dirty and grey. I knew it was going to rain, as most people would assume it does in Seattle. Rain has always been a friend to me. It is a comfort that, sadly, most people see as a hindrance.
Since I was little, the rain was there for me when others weren't. With rain, I felt at peace. As Iris and I continued our walk to her house, I began to reminisce about the tragic incident that occurred to me and my brother so many years ago.
My little brother Jay always had the notion that he could run away and have an adventure. But what he didn't know was that his naïveté would almost kill him.
One day, he actually did it - he actually ran away. The police couldn't find him for two days. We thought that he couldn't have gotten far, but we were wrong. I became so worried with Jay that on the third night of the search party, I left the house and looked for my little brother myself.
I ran up and down the streets yelling out his name. Trails of fear and worry were laced within my voice. A spark then ignited when I saw the forest in the distance. My friends and I had always called it the "Forbidden Forest" out of our great love for Harry Potter.
I ventured into the shadowy forest, the light of the sun sluggishly fading away. Recumbent branches of evergreen trees whipped against my body as I ran through the forest's thicket, but that wouldn't stop me in the slightest from finding my brother.
Soon after, I leaned against a tree's trunk in order to catch my breath. My lungs heaved as I breathed in the refreshing air around me. My gaze wandered off to a blue blur flying past. The bluejay perched itself onto a tree and admired the forest's scenery, all the while I admired it. It soon flew away into the sky, sensing something invisible to my human perception. Moments passed and I discovered why the bird had left.
Droplets of water jumped from the leaden clouds and landed into my hand. Soon after, the torrential string of dewdrops began to increase as the rain poured down. My feet picked up their pace as I ran in search of cover. During my steady sprint through the labyrinth of trees, I heard a flow of trickling water, like a stream.
