Chapter Nineteen
Sir Alec's Office at Scotland Yard
"Trevorton, Lord Baldwin, Lord Boswell what are you three doing here?" Sir Alec asked the three men when they were shown into Sir Alec's office. He could see that Lord Boswell was holding a bloodied handkerchief to the side of his head.
"We came to inform you about today's events. We have learned that the real traitor was not Lord Plympton but Lord Boswell here."
"What!"
"This morning Cat and I along with Myles, Lord Charles and several others confronted Boswell about two men Val saw leaving Boswell's house over a week ago. Seeing one of the men returned her memory to her since he was the man who had her kidnapped and paid Crocker to kill her near my house. We learned from Boswell after several threats that the men's names were Lord Penworthy and Sir Winterwood. I'm not sure of Winterwood's part in all of this but I am sure about Penworthy. You can question Boswell about Winterwood's involvement in things.
"It seems that Penworthy introduced Boswell to opium and during some party or get together at Penworthy's house Boswell strangled a woman during sex. Boswell was the one passing on government information to Penworthy."
"Is that true, Lord Boswell?" Sir Alec asked the man. Boswell only nodded a yes.
"What about Plympton was he also involved?"
"No, he was set up, given a note to meet Cat that night thinking she would inform him who the traitor was. Penworthy's man Graham fired the bullet that almost killed Cat while her bullet went astray that night and Penworthy killed Plympton," Oliver answered.
"Not only were they selling the information that caused several men to die for money they were also getting opium to sell here in England as well.
"We brought you Lord Boswell before we go on to confront Penworthy. I have Rider staked out at his residence while Josh it at Winterwood's. I thought you might like to come along to see this whole mess finally put to an end and these people pay for their crimes."
"Why didn't you come for me before you went to Lord Boswell's residence?"
"Because I knew I would probably employ means to make him talk that would make you uncomfortable, Sir Alec."
"Yes, of course. What happened to Lord Boswell?"
"Cat, wasn't happy with leaving him untouched," Oliver replied then smiled for the first time in days.
"While on the way to Penworthy's I'll tell you why Val and I returned to town after we discovered a name on a slip of velum hidden inside a figurine that lead us to Lord Boswell's house and Val's memory returning."
Outside Penworthy's house.
"He's inside," Rider informed Oliver along with Sir Alec and Charles when they arrived across the street from Penworthy's house. "I saw him enter just a few moments ago and he was with a man and he looked like the man Val described at Graham. The man was noticeably stooped as they entered the house."
Several policemen had followed in another coach as Oliver, Sir Alec and Charles made their way to Penworthy's residence after Boswell was put behind bars for Alec to later question the man in more detail. The policemen stopped a few blocks away so the men could circle around the house and keep anyone from leaving or entering per Sir Alec's instructions.
Oliver was relieved that Penworthy was in residence and hoped the man had not learned about Boswell's arrest yet from any of Boswell's servants. He hoped their visit would be a surprise.
