A Hero is Born

I stare at lightning in shock. What a gorgeous name I think to myself. She has a strange feel to her that I’ve never actually felt in life. She seemed like a strong leader, someone you can trust. Her body was well built, and she had beautiful curves that fit her perfectly. I look at her and get a feel as if she’s just a goddess in disguise.

“Ok, Lightning,” I say, “tell me what I’m doing here before I freak out.”

“You’re here because I summoned you,” she said with her soothing voice. “Right now I need your help more than you know. Those visions you saw are what’s going to happen to this world very soon, and I need your help to protect it.”

“Well, I’m pretty sure that I can’t help you. I’m just your average teenage boy. I can’t do anything but fail tests and sit at home all day, what do you expect me to do?”

“First off, I must tell you something that is very important. Where you are now is called Valhalla, the home of goddess Etro herself. I stay here, protecting the goddess, and watching over the timeline itself. I can see the past, present and future, and this man you saw in your visions I gave you plans on attack this land. I need you, Conner, to help me protect it. I am unable to leave this place, but you can.”

“Wait, wait, wait. You’re telling me to help you fight a man who can bring in an army? I so can’t do that,” I say with defiance in my voice.

“Just listen to the rest of what I have to say.  You are more important than what you think you are. This man, his name is Caius Ballad, and he will be coming to destroy this world. If he succeeds, disaster will leak out into the world, and kill everyone, and I as the protector can’t allow that to happen.”

“Alright then, so what can I possibly do to help?” I question.

“I have chosen you as the protector, because there’s something extraordinary about you. You hold the capability of using magic gifted by the gods. Etro has blessed you, for she knows you can help protect Valhalla.”

All of a sudden, a shield and sword appear in her hands. They appeared to have come from thin air. The shield was round, with a silver finish and gold rim. In the center of the shield was a lightning bolt. The sword was even more beautiful. It had an earthy brown color, with gold running all throughout the blade. This blade was different from any I’ve ever seen. It had a mark at the center of the grip. I recognize that mark. I thought to myself. It’s the mark of the L’Cie!

“Why does the sword have the mark of the L’Cie? Get that thing away from me!”

I stagger back and fall down to my knees, afraid of what this thing is, and who this “Lightning” is. The L’Cie brand has been unseen for years, and I’ve only heard rumors about it in books or stories. All I know is that Fal’Cies’ were the ones who took down Cocoon, yet also saved it. That brand is feared by everyone, and now I fear it as well.

“Don’t worry about the brand,” says Lightning. “It won’t cause you any harm, and it’s only beneficial for granting you magical powers when wielding this blade. I suggest you take these. You’ll need them later on.”
