The girl twisted and screamed, her back finally hitting the ground. The thin windbreaker she had on doing nothing to protect her against the two feet of freshly fallen, ice cold snow on the ground.
But she didn't even notice that, her instincts took over and the nine year old child sprinted off, ignoring the fact that she was running in worn down converse, in the middle of a snow storm, In Canada. During winter
As her feet hit the ground she had a strong urge to look back at the hospital. Being the nine year old child she was, the overpowering force of curiosity won the battle in her mind, and she looked back.
She shouldn't have.
Behind her something demonic was happening. Each and every one of the shadows around the hospital and land around it seemed to be drawn towards a certain point, where they swirled together to form a vaguely humanoid shape.
Half formed and trailing shadows , the shape took off. At a speed that could easily beat the fastest car in the world, it raced towards the terrified child, gaining speed until it reached her.
It then stopped, hovering above the sidewalk, watching her.
The child began to shake and memories flashed through her head. Triggered by the traumatic experience they flashed through her mind like a movie reel. One after the other.
Two hands giving her a large, red, leather bound book, the title reading "Grimn Fairytales" . The girl smiled, showing off a toothy grin.
"Thanks ma, thanks pa" she said, hugging the thick book to her chest.
She ran up the stairs, clutching at he book. Throwing open her door, the girl jumped on a brightly patterned bed and began to read the storybook, flipping through the pages and gobbling up the magical tales.
Thoughts of princes and princesses in magical kingdoms swirled in her head after that memory, and the girl bolted awake.
Immediatly noticing that the shadow like thing was gone, the girl stood.
Cautiously getting to her feet, she looked around. When she didn't see anything magical-ish the girl gave herself permission to panic.
The sun was setting and she needed to get to somewhere sheltered. She didn't want to brave the icy temperature if the Canadian winters and the sky was already a ombre of red and orange hues.
Half terrified the girl slowly began walking back towards the hospital, she dreaded going back there but it was the only place she could go.
