And so they're at it again. Like yesterday never happened. Like the things said were never said.
He's left her again.
Again.
She's sat in second period chemistry, staring at the rain. Of course it's raining. She isn't paying attention to anything being written. She's just spaced. Nothing around her is making much sense. Just sounds like a bunch of buzzing. She can see Marcus out of the corner of her eye. Her good eye anyway.
Let's just say Alejandro didn't like her coming home so late. She didn't tell him where she was, just said she stayed to help put up decorations for the Winter Snow Ball. Something she will not be going to. Not with a black eye anyway.
She's wrapped in Marcus' hoodie. She forgot to give it back, but now since he isn't talking to her....
Marcus has his reasons. What they are, no one knows. Maybe he doesn't care. Maybe he's annoyed. Maybe he doesn't know what to say. One thing he knows for sure is that somethings wrong. When is it not?
Brooke is a problem. Her own kind of problem. She's sad, depressed, full of worries. But there's no chance of that being fixed. So why not give up? He's got nothing to lose. Except maybe whatever's festering between them. If it's even anything. She's beautiful and her smile is gorgeous. But her little issues seem to take away from that...
He can't stop looking at her though. Drowning in his hoodie. It's adorable. She's just one seat to the left, but he's tempted to get closer. Just to have a better view. So that's what he does. He glares at the kid next to him until he moves and allows Marcus to sit in his seat.
"Hey Princess"? "Marcus". Her voice is distant and a bit unfocused. Almost like she's high. "You okay"? "Yeah. Just tired". She won't look at him and he immediately knows somethings up. Of course. "Wanna get out of here"? "I don't want to get in trouble. I'll just stay here". He's puzzled, but he isn't going down that easy. "I have somewhere we can go, Princess. Come with me". "I can't". "Do I have to beg"? "It's raining". "I'll give you another hoodie. Come on". "No Marcus". "What if I said you can punch me"? "Tempting, but no". He sits up straighter and sighs. "Fine then". He starts tapping his pen against her hand, a smile spreading as she grabs his pen. "Stop that". "Come with me after this class". "Weren't you just ignoring me? Now you want me to skip class with you"? "I wasn't ignoring you". "Yeah. Sure". "Then let me make it up to you".
"Marcus? Something you wanna share with the class"? "Obviously not. If I wanted any of them to hear, I'd be yelling. Which I wasn't. So why don't you mind your own fucking business"? "Marcus. Get out". "With pleasure". He turns and winks at Brooke. "I'll see you in a bit". As soon as he walks out, the bell rings and Brooke wants to bash her head in. She keeps her head down as she walks out and lets Marcus grab her dainty wrist. "Where are you taking me this time"? "It's a surprise".
As she gets into his car, she can't help but to wonder why. She knows she's gonna get hurt again, but who wants to be in school anyway?
"You know you can take the hood off, right? You don't have to hide your face from me". "More comfortable this way". It's a long two hour drive, but Brooke never says a word. The two only focus on the road, the soft sound of the rock station playing softly in the background. After finding his destination, Marcus pulls over and shuts his car off. In the middle of the woods. Brilliant. "If you plan on murdering me, do it quickly". "However did you guess"? "Shut up". He steps out and walks to the other side, helping her down but stopping when he sees her eye. "What happened"? "I slipped". "That's a lie". "It isn't". "You didn't fall. You would have scrapes somewhere". "I fell". "That's a lie. Someone hit you". "No one hit me". "You didn't fall Princess. I've given a lot of black eyes. I know what it looks like. That one's fresh too". Brooke hugs her hips and looks away. "I got into a small argument". "With"? "Doesn't matter". "You can't just block me out Princess. I won't let you". "That's what they all say until they give up". "I decide when I give up and when I don't". "Yeah. And when things get too difficult, you'll do just that".
