On a late summer afternoon, right as the sun is orangish red I walk down the boardwalk heading home after sitting on the beach all day watching the waves go back and forth. "Time to head home again... after spending the day watching the waves... Alone." I say while walking home sluggishly.
While walking down the boardwalk and looking down at my phone, I bumped into someone. I can only see their long white stockings up to the person's knees and brown shoes. I look up quickly, "Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't see y-" I say while noticing that there was nobody around me. "Oh.. Maybe it was just my imagination... It couldn't of been. I felt them touch me." I say while shrugging off the topic and heading home, paying attention to my surroundings. After making it to my apartment, I lived on the 2nd floor with my Mom and my little sister, Suzuran. But we called her Yuri for short. Her name is based off a flower, a Lily of the valley. Its suppose to represent her being Sweet, but her personality is more like annoying. My Mom thought the name was cute, my name is actually based off the ocean. Two different meanings.
As soon as I unlock the door and head in, I take off my shoes and put on my slippers. My Mom is working on dinner while my sister is helping. "Hi Sis!" I hear Yuri say in a sweet manner. "Oh, hey Yuri." I say trying to get out of the conversation. "Kailani, please talk to your sister. You have been avoiding us all this week. Is something the matter?" I hear my mom say as soon as i'm almost out of the room. "Nothing is wrong, just leave me alone!" I say walking into my room and slamming the door. I lay on my bed looking out the window just next to it. "Ugh! Why does my life have to be so stupid!" I say looking at the ocean. Just then, I see a girl peering at me from the road in front of my apartment. She's staring right up at me, not beside me, not above me. But at me. I give a small wave. She doesn't do anything. She just... stares. I then go and close my blinds. "What is wrong with people these days? Stupid creeps." A second pass as I close it. I peek outside my blinds. She's gone. I look around, nowhere. "Weird... Atleast shes gone." I say, while going to grab headphones. Placing them on my head, I start to play some music to help me resolve the stress from the conversation with Mom. I close my eyes, and I quickly fall asleep. I'm inside of a dream.
I open my eyes. There is a girl in front of me, her back is facing me. She has Black hair. I'm at the beach. But... something isn't right. I'm transparent. "What!? WHAT?!" I say placing my hand on myself, but it goes through. Just then, the girl in front sit down on the beach while sitting on her legs. Like bowing. She has a white flower in her hand. "Umm, Are you okay?" I say, realizing that she can't hear me, Or see me. I go to the side of her to see what she is doing. She whispers a few words. "I'm... Sorry.." She then places the flower on the water. While it flows off on the ocean surface, into the distance. She stands up. I then wake up, breathing heavily, looking around at my surroundings. "Everything... Is normal?" I say breathing heavily and shocked. "Who was that, no.. What was that?" I say confused. I get up, drop my headphones, and open my door and run out. I run to the door and change to my shoes and hear my mom yell. "Kailani, where are you goin-" I slam the door shut. I got to see if she's still there. I run down the boardwalk, heading towards the beach. As soon as I get there, I look around looking for someone matching her description. "Black hair, black hair." I say scanning the area. "Nobody.." I say still scanning for her. B-but... She was... just here." I say looking upset. I turn around going to head back home, I then see a black-haired girl peeking at me from behind a Cafe wall. "H-hey! Stop, you!" I say dashing towards the girl. The girl then disappears from behind the Cafe. As soon as I get there, she's gone. I scan the area, looking for any area the girl could have headed toward. "Nowhere" I say look around desperately. "B-But... Whats going on!?" I say, yelling in my head. "That's it! I'm heading home, maybe i'm just hungry, and Mom is probably worried." I say, turning around and heading the same way as before heading home. As soon as I step in the door, my mom turns around with the phone in her hand. "Oh, call it off! She is home, Everything is fine!" She says while putting the phone down. She walks towards me, while I change into my slippers. "And where were you missy!?" My mom says with a deathly glare. "Uhh, I needed... air." I say trying to hide the real reason. "Do you know who I just called?" She says with an angry tone. "Uhh... Dad?" I say trying to get out of the punishment. "No, the police. I was about to get them looking for you." She says. "Oh, well... sorry." I say looking bad. "It's fine, but please do not leave without a word." She says with a forgiving tone. "Also, dinner is finished." Pointing at the table filled with food, with my sister sitting at one of the chairs. We all sit down at the table and say Itadakimasu, which is thanks for the food. We start eating. I try to eat quickly, to try to get out of any family discussions. I finish up and put my plate in the sink. And head towards my bedroom.
As soon as i'm in my room, I take my Pajamas and head towards the bathroom. I change into my pajamas and start to brush my teeth. Then head into bed, peeking outside the blinds for the last time. "Not there." I say lying down, closing my eyes. Heading to a peaceful, long slumber.
