Out of breath, I dashed down the boardwalk towards the beach, I could hear sirens blaring. I arrived and as I tried to get close, a police officer told me to stay back. "What's happened here!?" I asked, not expecting an answer. "A hit and run." He replied. I froze, scared that Kurono was the victim of the hit and run. "Is the person okay?" I asked, sweating and fearing for the worst. "We don't know at the moment, kid. I think you should head on home and let the adults take care of it." I was swelled up with stress, sadness, and anger. "IF YOUR FRIEND WAS A VICTIM OF A HIT AND RUN, WOULDN'T YOU CARE?!" I yelled, tears rolling down my face. The officers froze, and one even tried to come up and comfort me, but I pulled away and started walking home. As I was about gone, I heard a faint voice, someone whispering my name, like "Kailani, Kailani" I froze and looked behind me. "Come... Back.." I heard, no doubt it was Kurono. I dashed back to the scene, and this time the officers left me through, I was petrified.

I stood there, barely unable to recognize the familiar happy go lucky girl I met at the beach yesterday. Was this the same girl? Was she actually being chased? Could I have stopped it? I had a million thoughts go through my head at once, I started crying again. "Don't cry, you couldn't have done anything.." Kurono said, trying to give a smile. She was partly bald, and her scalp was bleeding. Her clothes were dirty and she had bruises all over. "Who did this to you?" I said, looking her up and down. "I don't.. know.. It was dark.." Kurono said, scared. "We will get you justice, I promise you Kurono, don't worry, they WILL pay." I said looking at her with a stern look. "Thank you... I'll be okay, just head home, I'll text soon." She said laying back down and closing her eyes. "Okay, I will, please call or text if you need anything, I don't care what time." I said feeling powerless. "I will, go now. She said with a smile with her closed eyes. I arrived home later and my mom was sitting at the dinner table, watching me when I got inside and took my shoes off. "What's going on Kailani?" She said strict and stern. "What do you mean..? I needed ai-" I got cut off by her raising her voice and standing up. "I'm tired of hearing that excuse, we both know that's not what you were doing, just be honest with me!" She said walking towards me with tears and anger. "I-I, there was a hit and run at the beach.." I said looking down at the floor, watching my moms feet walk towards me and than stop. "...What...What does that concern you? Did you know them?" She said scared. "Yes, I met her the other day, she-shes okay, I think, just not physically.." I said, holding back tears. "I'm going to bed now, goodnight." I said. I got no reply.

As I headed into my room, I sat on my bed, listening to the crickets mixed with the beach waves outside, trying to put together what just happened. I stood up and got changed into my tank top and shorts and crawled into bed and tried to sleep. Hours went by and I kept tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep after what happened. I got up, used the bathroom, grabbed my headphones and went out of my room. Nobody was up and I went into the fridge and got a drink and headed back to my room and sat at my desk. I opened my computer and looked up the latest news in my area, trying to figure out if the story of her is here, sure enough it was. "Local girl, victim of hit and run." was the title, I clicked. I read through all of it, but nothing about her wasn't out yet. "Ugh, stupid." I said closing the computer and finishing my drink and getting back to bed with my headphones, listening to music. I finally drifted to sleep, but another weird dream hit me. I woke up on the beach, but it was dark. I saw Kurono sitting on the beach, sobbing. A guy came behind her and hit her with a bat. I froze, realizing I was watching the hit and run from earlier, but.. how? "KURONO, GET UP!" I yelled, but she couldn't hear me. I watched all of it happen, but still couldn't get what the person looked like. She laid there, like how she looked earlier for a while, but she called the police. But... I never saw her pull out her phone and call me as she did earlier, asking for help. "How..?" I asked, wondering how she did that, did she have... powers? I suddenly felt rumbling and thunder and ducked and a piece of the dream itself fell and as it hit me, I awoke again, looking around. It was around 6 am. I stood up, getting ready for the day, unknown to what would happen next..
