It was a rather nice day in Death City. The townsfolk were bustling, shops were open, and all in all the place looked fairly lively. The bright orange sun grinned down upon the entire city, bathing it in light and warmth. Perhaps it would be a nice day to go out for a stroll, maybe buy some ice cream and go on a date with someone.

It certainly wasn't a nice day to be cooped up inside school.

This is what most students at the Death Weapon Meister Academy, or DWMA for short, thought as they sat in the desks awaiting class to begin. One child, a boy with white hair and bright red eyes stared silently outside the window. A girl in pigtails sat next to him engrossed in a book. Another boy, this one with marine-colored hair that stood out in spikes was standing on top of his desk shouting things like "I'm the best meister out there! All of you wannabes must look up at the great Black Star!" while another girl who was presumably his weapon was trying, and failing, at getting him to settle down.

As this was all happening, a boy who was dressed rather sharply in a suit was collapsed on the floor in the fetal position. The child was whining about how his hair was imperfect and that he was "asymmetrical garbage". Two females in matching outfits stood by him. The one with blonde hair was giggling and pointing. The other, a brunette, was trying to comfort him as she rolled her eyes.

Then there was someone else. They sat just next to the girl with the book, they looked around nervously, almost seeming to shake. He...or, um...she? Is that a boy or a girl? They ran a hand through their bright pink locks nervously. Their eyes shifted nervously as they sat there.

Everything soon went silent as the door opened. The teacher, known as Dr.Stein walked, or should I say rolled, into the room. He was in his rolling desk chair, which appeared to be his main mode of transportation half the time. He made his way to the middle of the room, just in front of the large oak desk. He twisted the rather large screw that was seemingly jammed into his scull a few times before finally speaking.

"Good morning class," He began. "now, before we get to our lesson I have some very special news to share." The students all looked at each other curiously, as if further information would be held in at least one of their faces. The boy with the white hair now opened his mouth, not even bothering to raise his hand.

"What is it? You finally retiring or something?"

His comment earned a few nervous chuckles. The teacher sighed as he spoke again. "Today we have two new students joining the EAT class. From what I've heard they're already partnered up together as meister and weapon." Now excited chatter filled the room as they all wondered what the new kids would be like. Stein soon made a hand motion towards the door. "You may come in now."

The door swung open once more, revealing the pair. They entered and the students judgement began. They were both boys. The first one to walk in and face the class was of short stature, probably being shorter than most of the class. He was dressed in a dark blue shirt. A black vest was worn over top of it. His hands were shoved into the pockets of his jeans. His emerald eyes stared off blankly at the students. He lifted a hand to brush a piece of raven hair behind his ear.

The other boy was taller, about an inch or two above average. He was clad in a t-shirt that was blood-red. It clung to his noticeably thin torso tightly. The image of two black feathery wings on the shoulder blades was printed onto the back. His arms were crossed across his chest. His messy chestnut locks fell into his stunning violet eyes. He seemed to glare at the rest of the class with a glare that Soul "Eater" Evans, the male with the white hair, once believed only existed on women who were on their period. Well he appeared to be just wrong. Period.

"Alright now listen up. I'm only going to say this once." The one in the red shirt growled. "My name is True Blakesley and this boy hear," He motioned towards the other. "is my meister. His name is Agnus Stillman. We are not "trading partners" or anything of that sort. We're just fine with each other. Also, he's mute. For all of you idiots out there, that means he doesn't speak. I doubt you ever will hear him say a word. Why? I'm not saying. If I hear any threats or bad things being said about him or myself I'll tear the souls right out of you. Is that clear?"

The students nodded, already intimidated by the weapon's speech. Only, not all of them nodded. One lone student made a retort. Well, if you could even really call it that that is.

"Ha! You think that's supposed to scare someone like me? Now then I'll forgive you for trying to one-up me, if you apologize that is!" The boy with spiky blue hair shouted this as he pointed a finger at the male. His weapon immediately began spewing apologies as she attempted to pull him back into his seat.

"Excuse me? Well then how about I come over there so you'll know who I am." True stepped forward, only to be stopped by his meister, who grabbed his hand tightly. "What?"

The black-haired boy suddenly pulled out a small orange note pad from his back pocket along with a small pencil. He scribbled something in it before showing it to his partner. True nodded and looked back at Black*Star before replying in a far calmer voice.

"Alright then how about this? We have a duel in the morning tomorrow."

The students all gasped, astounded by the bold statement. Stein smirked, saying he could supervise it and that it could be right on the school grounds. Black*Star merely grinned before shouting.

"I accept your challenge! Soon you shall tremble in fear at the very mention of the great Black*Star!" His weapon sighed before finally sitting. The mad scientist/ teacher informed the students that enough time had been wasted and for the new students to sit down anywhere they'd like. True and Agnus nodded before they chose a spot just next to the student with an unknown gender. Agnus smiled slightly at the trembling child before writing something into the note pad and sliding it over to them.

Hello there. You probably already know my name, but what's your's?

Crona shakily wrote a reply back to the meister.

        My name is Crona.

Ah. That's a nice name. If you don't mind me asking, are you a boy or a girl? I'm sorry it's just very difficult for me to tell.

Crona was just about to reply when the teacher spoke and announced the start of class. They quickly turned towards the board as if their life depended upon it.

"Alright class. Now today we'll be dissecting this..." Stein's voice was drowned out by the new student hype. No one talked, but they let their minds drift to think about the pair. Who were they? Where did they come from? Let's not forget the most important question:

Just who the hell would think about picking a fight with a kid they just met?
