Abby's POV:

Today is finally the day Cameron and I have been dreading for ages. Tonight is the dinner between his parents. I don't think it will be as bad as it was the first time, but it will be bad.

He's picking me up at 6 o'clock and it's 3 right now. Zach and I are at the park down by a huge creek shooting basketball. The season has been going really well, and the girls aren't that bad. One of the best players on the team, Sophie, is pretty cool. We have become pretty good friends already.

"So, Abby, why did you decide to play again?" Zach asked. Zach was one of those boys who hated school and only cared about sports. His entire world is sports.

"I missed it. It was killing me watching these games and not being able to play. And the girls who played before hated me. Now they just ignore me, so it's better."

"Does Cameron play? I bet I could take him."

"I bet you could, but it doesn't matter. You won't be able to play unless you get better grades. No colleges will scout you unless you have a good grade point average, doesn't matter how good you are."

"Yeah, I know. I just don't understand anything. It never makes sense. I mean, when am I ever going to need to cosine of a triangle in life? I mean seriously."

"I agree, but it's more about learning logic and problem solving to help mature your brain. I used to say the same thing, and I still do, but I want to be smart and good at what I do in the future."

"You're already a genius. I'm the idiot of the family."

"I'm not as smart as Brandon, and I'm not as committed to sports as you. I have no idea what I'm going to do with my life. At all."

"Join the club."

"At least you have more time. I have a year."

"Come on, let's go. I have something to do tonight."

"Oh, and what is this that you have going on that you have to leave me?" I said walking to the car.

"There's a party tonight. Me and the guys are going together and we are going to LaRosa's."

"The guys and I."

"Shut up," he said laughing.

We got in the car and drove home.

At around 5:45 Kylie called me.

"Hey, what's up?" I asked.

"Hey, what are you doing tonight?"

"Cameron and I are having dinner with both sets of parents."

"Even your families are meeting now? This must be getting serious."

"I don't mean my parents and his, I mean his biological parents and his parents."

"Oh duh, I knew that."

"Yeah, so what did you need?"

"I need to tell you something. It's important." She said after a long pause.

"What is it?"

"I can't tell you over the phone. I'll tell you later. Bye." And she hung up.

Cameron was here to pick me up so I said bye to my parents and left.

"Hey, I was going to come in. I don't want your parents to think I'm some jerk that won't come up I to the door."

"It's fine, let's just get this over with."

"Good idea."

The car ride was full of pointless conversations. When we got to the restaurant, Cameron was noticeably nervous. His palms were sweaty and he was really fidgety. I took his hand to try to calm him down.
