The first chapter is out.  Here it is.  I worked on this for two weeks so I hope it is good quality.  I edited this along with a few other friends.  Although, there may be a few grammar mistakes here and there.  Please do not comment them for me to see how human I am.  Thank you and enjoy.

"As you all know, the poem assignment I assigned on Monday is due today." The entire class groaned as Miss Reicher announced every procrastinator's worst nightmare, a due date. I didn't mind, though. I'm not a nerd, but I usually finish every assignment early, so I was neither upset nor excited with the due date being today. But it's not the actual assignment that I dread; it's what follows tasks like these. Miss Reicher is a very hands-on teacher, meaning she doesn't like just to teach the topic then sit back and let us do work. No, she likes to show, give us assignments, and then let us converse and present every one. I'm not a very social person.

"Who would like to go first?" I, as usual, ducked my head down and shrunk down further into my seat. I sit at the back of the classroom where no one likes to sit. Thankfully for me, the nerds all sat at the front of the class, and their raised hands blocked me from view. Miss Reicher scanned the classroom and decided on one of the front row nerds. "Lucy, why don't you come up and present your poem?" Lucy. She was one of the nerdiest people in my English class with her thick-rimmed glasses and dirty blonde hair in a bun. It's not like I have anything against her because I honestly like her as a person, but I classify her as a nerd because she always raises her hand first and is so professional.

After Lucy presented her poem, which was a free verse about the ocean, all of the other nerds and non-nerds followed her presenting about the grass, trees, and food. Then I was the only one left. The moment I dread has arrived. Miss Reicher stared directly into my soul. "Miss Kadne, it is your turn to present now, please come up to the front." I slowly stood up and walked to the front to present my poem. I quite enjoy writing. But I'm scared of what people think of it. I'm afraid of society. I blink, and I'm up in front of everyone. I take a breath and speak softly.

"A vibrant musical soul,

she once used to be.

Had big plans,

she once did.

But society did as well.

It broke her down,

silenced her music,

and dulled her colours.

Till' one day,

she was nothing at all.

But then he came,

made her sing once again,

and brought her back to life."

The class was silent. I couldn't blame my peers, though. I'm not a very good writer, much less a poet. Lucy was staring at me intently as if trying to figure me out. I bowed my head. "Thank you." Then I walked back to my seat. Miss Reicher cleared her throat. "Thank you, Miss Kadne. That was very good." I just nodded my head. Miss Reicher then went back to explaining our next project while I just kept to my seat in the back repeating the words in my head. "Don't worry, Rose." I was jolted back into my painful reality by the bell. I quickly stood up and strode towards the door. Unfortunately, I was stopped by Miss Reicher. "May I speak to you?" I nodded my head slowly. I just wanted to go home.

Miss Reicher waited until everyone was out of the classroom before shutting the door. "Are you doing ok, Rose? I know it has not been that long." I forced a smile. "Of course, Miss Reicher, I'm have gotten over the incident." She nodded and smiled sheepishly. "That's great! Also, I wanted to speak with you about the new student coming in. I hope you don't mind, but I assigned you to show him around. I thought it would be a good chance for you to bond with someone. You were never a very social person, dear, and what happened hasn't helped, so this is a great opportunity for you. He is to arrive next Monday, so you have the rest of the week and the weekend to prepare for his arrival. His name is Kaden."

I just smiled and nodded. "I don't mind!" That's not true. Miss Reichs is one of the nicest teachers ever, the only one who knows of my situation, and she keeps trying to help me, but I'm fine on my own. "Great! See you for class tomorrow." I waved and walked out to my locker to gather my belongings. After I shut my locker, I walked down the deserted halls to the door. I took a deep breath and began my walk home. I don't have enough money to afford a car, so I walk home and everywhere else, for that matter. I stopped by a 7/11 for a quick slushie then walked the rest of the length home. "Mother, Father, I'm home," I said, my voice quiet as I walked into the deserted house.

I sighed. It hardly feels like home anymore. But it still was. I walked into the dark kitchen and set my homework down onto the table. I turned o the lights and began to work. The silence was killing me, so I grabbed my phone and started listening to Cancer by Twenty-One Pilots. I began to mumble the song softly. "Turn on our way, if you could get me a drink. Cause' my lips are chapped and faded." The song played on through, and I finished my assignment. I put my work back into my binder and brought my stuff to my room upstairs.

I looked around the room, sighed, and walked downstairs and got my shoes on. Afterward, I grabbed the house keys and my wallet and phone. After walking out the door, I locked it and headed over to the nearest Target. The walk was very short, to be honest. I strode over to the TV dinner section and picked out the potatoes and beef dish. I then walked over to the register. However, as I was walking, I ran into another someone. That, someone, was a boy around my age. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there." He laughed. I smiled forcefully. "No, It's ok. I should be looking up when I walk." He shook his head.

"No, it's fine. I'm new here. I just moved here last week with my family." I froze as I heard the word I'd forced from my vocabulary. "Nice," I whispered. He rubbed his neck. "Hey, I haven't had the chance to make any friends yet, so... can I have your number so we can be friends?" He questioned. I nodded slowly and sceptically. "Umm sure." I handed him my phone, and he made himself a contact. He looked up at me in a confused manner. "Hey, if you don't mind me asking, why don't you have anyone in your contacts? I mean, you don't even have any family members in here. " I shrugged. "New phone." he nodded and handed me back my phone. "Well, I'll be sure to text you later. See you!" Then he walked away. I took my food back to the aisle from which I chose it from; my appetite seems to have left along with my new "Friend."

Wow. I am so proud of myself.  Also, special shoutout to my friend Emma who does not have a wattpad account, but she is an awesome person for helping me edit the first chapter.  Also, I will be updating every other Friday from now on.
