Naruto POV

I listened to Sasuke pant harder as he ran with me in his arms down the long corridor. The screams and cries of war were echoing through the open windows into the hallway. I laid my head against his chest, listening to the faint thudding of his heart against his ribcage. I groaned as a dull throb came from the wound in my side.

"Hang in there baby, we're almost there." He said readjusting me in his arms and turning yet another corner.

"Sasuke, put me down. I can still fight." I said struggling in his hold. He stopped for a moment to try and get a better hold on me. I took that as my chance to try and wiggle out of his arms. I got both feet on the ground only for my legs to give out on me. I cried out in pain as I felt my hip crack and give away under my weight. Sasuke caught me in his arms before I could hit the ground.

"How can you fight if you can't even stand?!" He growled asserting his dominance of me before sweeping me up into his arms and continuing on his merry way. I his back in defiance, but let him do as he wished anyway.

Moments later we entered another room. I didn't need to look around much to know where we were. I could recognize the scent anywhere.

"Why did you bring me here?" I asked irritated as Sasuke adjusted me in his arms so he could lock the thick, heavy wooden door.

"You'll be safe here with her and you know it." He said walking over to the white silk and fur covered bed, laying me down on the soft wolf pelts gently, my blood began to stain the gray and white pelts red.

"I won't just lay here locked up in a tower, useless Sasuke. " I growled proping myself up on the many pillows behind. I hissed holding my wound when it began to burn.

"You won't be useless. " Sasuke said with his back turned to me, he bent over and picked something up out of the white, iron bassinet.

"Not to her you won't. " He walked over to me and placed the white silk wrapped bundle in my arms. I looked down at my princess as tears filled my eyes. She began to rub her own, fussing lightly before opening those sleepy aquamarine colored eyes, smiling up at me and Sasuke. Sasuke sat on the bed next to me, nuzzling his head against mine.

"She needs you to protect her, especially when I can't. " He said running his black nails through our girls raven hair.

"And who is going to protect you?!" I asked shooting him a glare. Sasuke smiled and pressed his lips to mine. Our masks clicked against one another as we leaned our foreheads against one another.

"As long as you two are safe and alive, I won't need anyone to protect me or keep me alive. You will always be my reason to come back unharmed my beloved." He pressed his lips back against mine, rubbing his thumb against my cheek as my tears began to fall.

"Stay. Please stay here with us." I begged him holding him close with one arm, the other holding my little girl. Sasuke looked deep into my eyes before giving a heavy sigh.

"I'll stay as long as I can. " He said pushing my shoulders till I was laying down flat on the bed. I turned onto my good side and laud my princess on the pillow next to me. She turned her head and giggled a small bit, reaching out and touched the white mask covering my eyes and nose. She traced the sparkling silver designs, a hint of innocent wonder showing in her eyes. Sasuke held me close and petted her hair, watching the two of us with love filled eyes.

The screaming and explosions got louder and closer making our little lady whimper.

"I have to go." Sasuke said getting up and walking to the door.

"I'll be back, I promise." He said looking back at me. I sat up against the headboard cradling our daughter to my chest. I nodded my head giving him a watery smile.

" 'We' will be holding you to that." He smiled and blew me a kiss before going out and closing the door behind him. The lock clicked back into place, separating me from my mate.

'I knew our lives were going to be long, hard, and painful from the day he walked back into it.' I thought, rocking my daughter back to sleep. I smiled letting out a content sigh.

'But for every long, painful moment. There has been an even longer, more beautiful one after it. So while this hard ship rages on, I will wait for my love to return, and the next beautiful moment to begin.'
